While I rated this book a solid 4 stars ⭐⭐⭐⭐—the only reason I didn’t go for 5 is that I found some plot points a tad predictable. Still, if you're ready to delve into a world of chilling mysteries, I wholeheartedly recommend grabbing a copy! 🕵️‍♂️🔦

🌟 Book Review: House of Blight by Maxym M. Martineau 🌟

Hey there, book lovers! 📚✨ Are you ready to dive into a story that’s going to grab you by the heart and not let go? Then you HAVE to check out House of Blight by Maxym M. Martineau, hitting the shelves on April 8th, 2025! 🎉

So, picture this: Edira Brillwyn is a mega talented threadmender who can heal people in the blink of an eye. Sounds amazing, right? 🥹 But wait—every time she uses her magic, she gives up a bit of her own life. Yikes! 😱 Just when she thinks she can keep her secret safe, the charmingly sinister Fernglove family catches wind of her powers.

Now, let’s talk about the drama! 🌪️

Enter Orin, the head of the Fernglove family, who offers to help when Edira’s brothers get hit hard by the blight—a nasty virus that’s got everyone in town on edge. You know what they say about fae bargains? Left with no choice but to try and save her brothers, Endira follows Orin to Fernglove manor to "train" her threadmending skills, alongside him and his brother Rorik. Only, things aren't exactly as they seem, and the The sibling rivalry between Orin and his brother Rorik is NOT all rainbows and sunshine; it’s cutthroat! Think of that tension from Rhysand and Tamlin—the air is filled with unspoken challenges and forced politeness. 😏💔

Gothic Vibes

Maxym totally nails the gothic vibes, immersing us in a magical world that feels both unique and eerie. 🖤✨ Every detail about the blight is nail-biting, and I found myself gasping as the characters’ stories unfolded. Edira’s bravery is seriously inspiring as she tackles not just her brothers’ sickness but also the dark secrets lurking in the Fernglove manor!

Honestly, I couldn’t put this book down! 🙌 The way Edira wrestles with her healing power—knowing that each time she saves someone, it costs her dearly—is so intense. You will feel every ounce of her struggle! And let’s not forget the chemistry between her and Orin; it’s deliciously complicated! 💖🔥

If you’re into strong, fierce heroines and a plot packed with suspense and intrigue, then House of Blight is your next favorite read. I’m already planning to shout about it from the rooftops on all my platforms! 📣

A huge shoutout to NetGalley, Maxym M. Martineau, and Avon and Harper Voyager for giving me an eARC! Seriously, set your reminders for this one because you won’t want to miss it! 🗓️✨ Happy reading, everyone! 💕📖

Book Review: Cursed Fates by Caroline Peckham and Susanne Valenti

Grab your tissues and a comfy chair because Cursed Fates is an emotional rollercoaster that will leave your heart racing and your eyes blazing with tears! 😭✨

Right off the bat, we're thrown back into the thick of chaos following the heartbreaking cliffhanger from Shadow Princess. If you thought things couldn’t get darker, think again! Lionel is still wreaking havoc, the Nymphs are out for blood, and survival is a day-to-day contest. Talk about a setup for an intense read! 😱🔥

The Storyline: A Dark Descent

The tension is palpable as we witness our beloved characters navigate this unforgiving landscape. “You fight dirty for a princess.” “I’m pretty sure being a princess in Solaria requires it.” These quotes perfectly encapsulate the gritty determination of our characters, and let me tell you, their journeys are not for the faint-hearted! Every twist feels like a punch to the gut, and just when you think you’ve caught your breath, another bombshell drops! 💣💔

We dive into true heartbreak as key pairings face separation and sacrifice for love. The emotional stakes have never felt higher, and you’ll find yourself flipping pages with the desperation of knowing what comes next. I absolutely adored how love and friendship remain at the core of this chaotic story! 💞✨

Character Development: A Stunning Evolution

Now, let’s talk about character development because Cursed Fates has raised the bar significantly! The characters are more relatable than ever! My feelings towards certain characters took quite the turn – I went from loving Orion to feeling furious with him! 😡 And Seth? Well, he’s gotten under my skin in a good way. Who knew I’d actually care about a character I previously disliked? 😅

Oh, and Darius? Let’s just say I didn’t expect to crush on a moody dragon, but here we are. 🐉💕

Plot & Pacing: Heavy Yet Essential

This book is hefty, and honestly, I liked the "filler" moments. They added necessary depth to the story, allowing us to bond with the characters even more. Those fluffy scenes with Darcy and Orion? A MUST for comic relief in this heavy narrative. And the moments between Tory and Darius? They had me swooning while simultaneously bracing myself for the upcoming heartbreak! 😍💔

Finally, the end of bullying in this series brought me so much relief I could’ve danced in the streets! 🎉🙌 Watching the friendships bloom between The Vega's and the Heirs was heartwarming and pivotal; it felt like a breath of fresh air amidst the turmoil.

Final Thoughts: A Lesson Learned

Cursed Fates is a story of lessons learned – on love, friendship, and the heavy consequences of our choices. It sets the stage for personal growth that will continue into the next book. Can’t wait to see where our characters go from here! 🌌🛤️

Rating: 4/5 stars! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

If you’re looking for a read that will tear your heart out only to stitch it back together with threads of love and friendship, Cursed Fates is definitely for you. Grab your copy and prepare for a ride through emotional upheaval! Happy reading! 📖❤️

📚🌌 Book Review: Zodiac Academy #4 - Shadow Princess by Caroline Peckham and Susanne Valenti

First off, let me say it loud and clear: I’m pissed! 😤 Like, mad as a hornet (or maybe I should say dragon shifter?). 🐉 Seriously, folks—whatever analogy you prefer doesn’t even scratch the surface of how I feel about that last hour of Shadow Princess. When I tell you that my patience with these two brilliant authors is wearing thin, I mean it ran out yesterday. 😩

The consistent push and pull between the characters' emotions and our emotions as readers? It HURTS, OKAY? 💔 And that cliffhanger? Well, it’s just plain mean, y’all!! 😱💥

But here’s the thing—I’m still equally obsessed. I’ve got a major stomach ache after that ending, and yet, I can’t help myself; I’m diving straight into Cursed Fates as soon as I hit “post” on this review. 🤯 That doesn't mean I’m not mad, sad, and worried all at the same time, though. Dang it! 🙈

Synopsis Recap 🔍

The shadows are in my blood. I can feel them crawling through me, slithering under my skin and taking me hostage. But the darkness within me isn't nearly as bad as the darkness that lives around me. The four Celestial Heirs will stop at nothing to destroy the lives of me and my sister. But they haven't figured out yet, that we're the strongest creatures they've ever known. And when that secret comes out, we need to be ready to face them as well as any other cruel Fae who rises against us. It’s us or them. And it damn well won’t be us. 😤💪

Seriously? This story has it all! The stakes are higher than ever, and the tension is absolutely palpable. I love how Caroline Peckham and Susanne Valenti have crafted such rich and complex characters that keep us engaged, even when we're tearing our hair out in frustration! 🙆‍♀️

What I Loved 💖

  1. Character Development: We see so much growth, especially in the dynamics between the sisters and the Celestial Heirs. The emotional depth here is incredible!

  2. World-Building: The universe is only getting richer; the Fae lore is layered and intriguing. I wanted to dive deeper into every little aspect.

  3. Unexpected Twists: Just when you think you know what's going to happen, BOOM—one of those twists hits you right in the gut! It's both exciting and excruciating!

What Frustrated Me 😩

  • That Ending...: I mean, come on! How could you leave us hanging like that? I felt like I was on a roller coaster that suddenly stopped at the top of a hill, and now I’m just dangling there! 🤷‍♀️

  • Pacing: A few parts felt dragged out where I just wanted to get to the good stuff quicker.

Overall, Shadow Princess has seriously left me feeling torn. 🌪️ I may be frustrated, but that just proves how invested I am in this story and its characters. If you’re looking for an exhilarating, emotional ride filled with magic, darkness, and epic battles, then this book (and series!) is definitely for you. Just be prepared for some serious mood swings! 😂

So, am I ready for more? Absolutely! But I might need a therapy session after all this. 😵‍💫 Happy reading, fellow Zodiac Academy lovers! 📖✨

Character Development

One of the standout elements of Ruthless Fae is the profound character development. 🌟 Each character experiences substantial growth, revealing vulnerabilities and strengths that make them relatable and compelling. The emotional arcs of these characters enrich the story, making every victory that much sweeter and every setback gut-wrenching. 😩💖 I can't help but feel a deep attachment to our protagonists, and I sense that their journeys are just beginning.

Book Review: Never Been Shipped by Alicia Thompson (4.25/5)

First and foremost, a huge thank you to NetGalley, the talented Alicia Thompson, and the wonderful Berkley Publishing Group for providing me with an eARC of Never Been Shipped! I was thrilled to access this book on my Kindle in exchange for my honest review.

Let me say, when I received the approval, I was over the moon! The book centers around one of my all-time favorite romance tropes: friends to lovers and second chance romance. Swoon alert 💕! And can we talk about that cover? It is absolutely perfection! 😍

This was my first book by Alicia Thompson, but I can assure you it definitely will not be the last. The plot execution was exceptional, weaving a rich tapestry of music, nostalgia, and romance. The flow felt seamless, making it difficult to put down. You really feel the electricity between the characters, enveloping you in their journey from the get-go 🔥.

Blurb Recap

The story revolves around Micah, a musician whose relationship with music is layered with complexity. After her band skyrocketed to fame as teenagers, they fizzled out just as quickly. Now, over a decade later, they're reuniting for a performance on a themed cruise. Micah is determined to avoid past mistakes—particularly with matters of the heart.

Enter John, Micah's former best friend and bandmate, who has always been a supportive shadow in her life. After years apart, he finds himself longing not just for the music but for Micah as well. The cruise is a melting pot of emotions, where they both must navigate their feelings and decide if their chemistry sparks something much deeper than just music 🎶.

My Thoughts

The way Thompson captures the complexities of friendship and romance is commendable. The characters felt genuine and relatable—each dealing with their vulnerabilities while simultaneously facing old emotions. The tension onboard the cruise, paired with the time limit of their time together, creates an engaging backdrop that keeps readers on the edge of their seats.

Micah and John’s character development is beautifully done, as they both confront their pasts and re-examine their relationship. The dialogues were witty and heartfelt, making every interaction feel significant.

In a world that often prefers clear-cut endings, this story expertly treads the line of uncertainty, inviting readers to remain hopeful ❤️. The emotional stakes were high, and I found myself rooting for them to embrace their second chance.

In conclusion, Never Been Shipped is an enchanting blend of nostalgia, romance, and music that will resonate with anyone who has ever felt 'what if.' I can’t recommend this enough to fans of contemporary romance or those who cherish tales of second chances. Prepare to be swept away! 🌊

Happy reading! 📚✨

🌟✨ Book Review: Zodiac Academy #1.5 - The Awakening as Told by the Boys 🌟✨

Author: Caroline Peckham and Susanne Valenti
Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐ (4/5 Stars)

Hey, fellow book lovers! 📚💖 I recently took a plunge into Zodiac Academy #1.5 - The Awakening as Told by the Boys, and let me tell you, I almost skipped it! 😅 Not being the biggest fan of retellings from different perspectives, I was initially hesitant. However, I’m so glad I gave it a shot! 🎉✨

🌀 A Deeper Dive into Orion and the Heirs 🌀

What surprised me the most about this book was how in-depth it delved into the backstories of Orion, Darius, Caleb, Seth, and Max. 🌌❤️ All those moments when I felt frustrated by their actions towards Tori and Darcy? Well, this book gave me the answers I was craving! It’s refreshing to see their reasoning and to understand the pressures they face. It truly changed my perception of them — or at least softened my feelings a bit! 😏

The narrative captures the complexity of their characters and the struggle between duty and desire. The boys aren't just power-hungry — they have their own demons to confront, and their perspectives added layers to the story that I didn’t expect! 🌪️🔥

💥 More Than Just a POV Shift 💥

Yes, we do get our fair share of the “sexy, power-hungry men who desperately want to get in the twins' pants” trope (and honestly, who’s complaining? 😜💖). But it’s all wrapped up in a rich narrative that showcases their internal battles and motivations. The writing is as engaging as ever, and the dialogue is packed with the witty banter that fans adore! 💬🤣

With over 50k words of new content, there’s no shortage of revelations, intense moments, and, surprisingly, emotional depth. The authors have done a fantastic job of balancing the fun and the serious aspects, leaving me both entertained and reflective. 💭✨

💫 The Stakes Are Higher Than Ever 💫

As Orion navigates the challenges posed by Tori and Darcy’s return, the stakes couldn’t be higher. The ominous atmosphere and the pressure they face in protecting their world really amplifies the tension. The line “The Vega twins are alive” echoes throughout the book, making it impossible to put down! 📈💥

I can’t wait to dive into Ruthless Fae now! Will the revelations from this book shift my feelings about the characters in the next installment? Only time will tell, but I’m excited to find out! ⏳🚀

👁️‍🗨️ Final Thoughts 👁️‍🗨️

Overall, The Awakening as Told by the Boys is a must-read for fans of the series. It added depth, context, and plenty of swoon-worthy moments. If you’re like me and not sure about reading a retelling, trust me, this one is worth it! 🌟❤️

🌟 Book Review: The Taken Ones by Jess Lourey 🌟

(3.75 stars)

Hello, book lovers! 📚💖 Today, I’m excited to share my thoughts on The Taken Ones, the first book in the Steinbeck and Reed series by Jess Lourey! I accessed this gem through Kindle Unlimited, and let me tell you, it reignited my passion for Lourey’s captivating storytelling! ✨❤️

📖 Plot Overview

Set in the haunting summer of 1980, The Taken Ones begins with a chilling mystery: three girls wander into a Minnesota wood, but only one returns—silenced and without any memory of what happened. 😱🔍 Decades later, in 2022, cold case detective Van Reed and forensic scientist Harry Steinbeck get tangled in a disturbing homicide involving a woman buried alive, clutching a heart charm necklace belonging to one of the missing girls. 🕵️‍♀️💔 As Van and Harry navigate this dark labyrinth of crime, they face their own demons from the past. The story deftly intertwines past and present, creating a web of secrets that kept me on the edge of my seat! 🏃‍♀️💨

🌈 Writing Style

Lourey’s writing is both engaging and atmospheric, effectively pulling you into the chilling backdrop of the Minnesota woods and the complexities of the characters' lives. 🙌🌲 Her ability to contrast the innocence of youth with the darkness of human nature is truly remarkable!

🕵️‍♂️ Character Development

Van Reed’s struggles with her childhood memories add a deeper dimension to her character, making her relatable and three-dimensional. 🔦✨ Meanwhile, Harry Steinbeck’s scientific approach brings a fascinating counterbalance to Van’s gut instincts. Their dynamic is electric, and I found myself rooting for them throughout their investigation. 🥳❤️

📚 A Little Complaining 😅

Now, I do have one tiny complaint: the chapters alternate points of view between the killer, the victim, and the detectives, but they aren't labeled! 🤔😳 I found myself occasionally catching on a bit late as I tried to decipher who was narrating. It was like a mini puzzle for the brain! However, the suspense and thrill more than made up for this little hiccup! 🧩🔍

🌟 Final Thoughts

Overall, The Taken Ones is an engrossing thriller that successfully explores the themes of trauma, memory, and the relentless pursuit of truth. I thoroughly enjoyed each page and cannot wait to dive into the next book in the series, The Reaping! 📖💖 If you’re a fan of mysteries that intertwine past and present, you won’t want to miss this one! 🎉

Happy reading, and let me know if you have any other book recommendations! 📚💌

📚💫 Book Review: The Dream Killer by Adam Cosco ⭐⭐⭐

Hey there, fellow book lovers! 📖✨ Today, I’m sharing my thoughts on The Dream Killer by Adam Cosco, a thriller that twisted my mind like a pretzel! 🥨 I received this eARC from Booksirens in exchange for my honest review—so here it goes!

📖 A Gripping Opening!

The book kicks off with Ethan, who wakes up feeling uneasy as helicopters circle his house 🚁. There’s a missing girl, and the FBI is hot on the trail! The tension is palpable, and I was immediately hooked. But then Ethan discovers a mysterious piece of paper with a triangle and three dots on it. 🤔 What could it mean? This was a fantastic setup, and I flew through the first half of the book like it was a race! 🏎️💨

😬 The Plot Takes a Turn

Things really take a dark turn when Ethan finds the missing girl wrapped up in a rug in the basement, along with that same insidious symbol etched into her back. 😱 At this moment, I was on the edge of my seat, trying to put the pieces together!

The introduction of Sophia, who seems to hold the answers Ethan desperately seeks, added layers to the story that I found intriguing—reminiscent of Shutter Island! 🏝️ However, I must admit, the plot twist that occurred about halfway through threw me for a loop. 🚦 It was a wild 180-degree shift that left me a bit disoriented.

🧠 A Complex Narrative

Cosco’s intelligence shines through in his plotting and character development. 🌟 It’s clear he crafted an intricate narrative; however, I struggled with the sudden changes in the storyline. It’s as if my brain was attempting to keep pace with a marathon runner! 🏃‍♂️💨

Although the ending ties up most loose ends and makes sense (mostly! 🤷‍♀️), the middle section felt like a puzzle I couldn’t quite solve. I appreciate the author's creativity, yet the complexity might be best suited for readers who enjoy psychological thrillers with an expansive intellectual grasp. 🧩

🤔 Who Would Enjoy This Book?

I would recommend The Dream Killer to those who love psychological thrillers and can tackle dense plots with a strong cerebral edge. 🧠💪 If you thrive on complexity and enjoy unraveling mysteries that require a bit of thought, this book might be right up your alley!

In conclusion, while I found The Dream Killer enjoyable and appreciated the author's genius, the unexpected plot twists left me feeling a bit overwhelmed. 😅 Thank you, Adam Cosco, for the opportunity to read your work!

Happy reading, everyone! 📚💖 Have you read this book? What are your thoughts? Let me know in the comments! ⬇️😊

Meet Lady Ivy Benton, our brave heroine embarking on her courting season at Kensington Palace. 🌟 The other eligible ladies and Ivy prepare to ask the Fae Queen for favors—like shinier hair for the season! 💅✨ However, this year is different! Ivy’s determination to restore her family’s status after her sister's mysterious disappearance makes her a relatable and compelling character. 🌼 She’s the first to step forward, and it isn’t long before she discovers the unexpected alliance with Prince Emmett, Bran’s charmingly rakish brother. Have you ever had a book grip you from the very first page? Well, Little Secrets by Jennifer Hillier did just that for me! 🎧 I listened to the audiobook via my local library app, Libby, and finished it in less than a day.

Heartbreaking Opening 🔥

The story opens with a moment that shatters your heart: Marin is at a bustling Seattle market with her young son, Sebastian. In a split second, she lets go of his hand to respond to a text from her husband, Derek—and that’s when everything changes. In those fleeting moments, Sebastian disappears. A year later, the search for him has gone cold, leaving Marin a shell of the vibrant woman she once was.

A Twist of Fate 🌪️

When Marin hires a private investigator to continue searching for her son, she never expects the shocking revelation that follows: the investigator informs her that Derek is having an affair. Whoa!! This revelation sends Marin spiraling down a dark path of obsession with McKenzie, the woman involved. She begins to follow McKenzie on Instagram, and even stakes out her workplace, determined to uncover the truth.

A Journey of Desperation 🚪

As the layers of deceit unfold, Marin starts leaning on her close friend, Sal, and the story takes another twist as she asks him to help her find a hitman. Yes, you read that right! This book is packed with suspense, making you question the lengths a mother will go to find her child and confront betrayal.

Twists and Turns Galore 🎢

The emotional depth and unexpected plot twists had me glued to my headphones. Hillier's writing is impeccable, delivering a narrative that is both heart-wrenching and thrilling. I found myself tearing up at times, completely invested in every character's journey, especially Marin's.

Final Recommendation 🌟

I would absolutely recommend Little Secrets to anyone who will listen—seriously! If you enjoy deep emotional narratives sprinkled with thrilling twists, this is the book for you. It’s hard to articulate just how much I loved this story, but I promise you won’t regret adding it to your reading list. Run, don’t walk, to your local library or audiobook app! Happy listening! 😊

📚✨ A Heartfelt Journey: Book Review of The Friend Zone by Abby Jimenez 🌟💖

Oh my goodness, everyone! 😍 I just wrapped up the most amazing audiobook experience with The Friend Zone by Abby Jimenez! 🎧 Trust me when I say, I was absolutely obsessed! Not only did the incredibly talented Teddy Hamilton narrate this gem (which made my heart flutter 💓), but the story itself dives deep into some powerful and relatable themes.

What’s It All About? 🤔

At the heart of The Friend Zone is Kristen, a fiercely independent woman navigating some serious crossroads in her life. She’s in a relationship with a handsome, successful guy who’s deployed most of the year, and guess what? He's not keen on having kids! 🎉 🙅‍♂️ Kristen, on the other hand, dreams of having a family but is facing her own struggles with infertility. 💔 Just when things seem complicated enough, she meets Josh, who is everything she didn’t know she needed—except for one little detail: he wants kids, and lots of them! 👶💕

As Kristen grapples with these intense emotions, readers are taken on a rollercoaster ride of love, loss, and poignant self-discovery. 🌪️💖

Why I Loved It 🌈✨

  1. Relatable Themes: This story resonated so deeply with me, especially on the topics of infertility and personal independence. The way Abby Jimenez handles these issues is both respectful and heart-wrenching. 💔 You can genuinely feel the struggles and emotions Kristen experiences.

  2. Chemistry Between Characters: The chemistry between Kristen and Josh is off the charts!🔥 Their banter and connection draw you in from the very first moment. I found myself rooting for them, even while knowing the road ahead was anything but easy.

  3. Heartfelt Narrative: Get ready for emotions that will hit you hard! While there’s sweetness, it’s the kind of story that rips your heart out in a way that leaves you feeling all the feels—nothing sugar-coated here! 😭💔 You’ll definitely be left with a bit of an unexpected HEA that will surprise you.

If you’re in the mood for a psychological thriller that dives into the murky waters of peer pressure and dark secrets, If You Tell a Lie by Lucinda Berry might just pique your interest! 🚨

Summary
The story follows four childhood friends—Blakely, Grace, Meg, and Thera—who were inseparable at Camp Pendleton. Their senior summer takes a dark turn when a reckless lie leads to the murder of their handsome tennis coach, Mr. Crosby. Fast forward 20 years, a mysterious note brings them back together, forcing the truth about that fateful summer to resurface. 🌊

What I Liked
One of the strengths of Berry’s writing is her ability to explore complex psychological issues, and she does so brilliantly here. The dynamics of friendship, guilt, and the impact of peer pressure are compelling themes that resonate throughout the narrative. The dual timeline structure adds depth, allowing readers to see how past actions shape the present. ☝️

Challenges
However, while the premise had immense promise, I found the ending somewhat lacking. It felt rushed, wrapping up events too neatly and leaving too many questions unanswered. I struggled to fully suspend my disbelief amidst some of the twists, which detracted from the overall impact. 😬

Final Thoughts
In conclusion, If You Tell a Lie hooks you with its intriguing setup and strong character exploration, but the resolution disappoints. Despite this, I will continue to explore Lucinda Berry’s other works, as she has a knack for delving into human behavior that I find truly fascinating. 📚✨

If you're a fan of thrillers that challenge moral dilemmas and human psychology, you might still find value in this read. Just be prepared for a conclusion that might not meet your expectations! 🚀

I had the delightful opportunity to dive into The Witch's Orchard, the debut mystery thriller by Archer Sullivan. Let me just say, it did not disappoint! 😍

From the moment I opened the pages, I was drawn into the life of Annie Gore, a former Air Force Special Investigator turned private investigator. Her journey back to her Appalachian roots, where echoes of a tragic past linger, is as compelling as it is haunting. 🌄💔

📖 Synopsis:

Ten years have passed since three little girls went missing from a close-knit mountain town, with only one ever returning. The weight of the unsolved mystery looms over the town like a dense fog, and Annie is hired by the brother of one of the missing girls to discover the truth. As she navigates the secrets, folklore, and the eerie vibes of the Appalachian holler, we see Annie confront her own demons too. Can she piece together the puzzle without becoming engulfed by the darkness of her past? 🌌🦉

While there are moments that felt a bit predictable, the storytelling kept me thoroughly engaged. Sullivan’s ability to weave suspense with rich descriptions of the Appalachian landscape compelled me to soak in every line. It’s clear this author has a remarkable talent for crafting captivating narratives.

🌟 Why I Loved It:

  • Engaging Protagonist: Annie is incredibly relatable and complex. Her history adds depth to the story, and I found myself rooting for her every step of the way.
  • Atmospheric Setting: The Appalachian holler painted a vivid backdrop that enhanced the eerie and suspenseful elements of the plot. You can practically feel the chill in the air! ❄️🌲
  • Mystery and Intrigue: The intertwining of local folklore with the mystery kept me guessing, and I appreciated the layers that kept unfolding as Annie dug deeper.

🤔 What I Hope For:

With such a strong debut, I am excited to see where Archer Sullivan takes us next! I hope to see more of PI Annie Gore in future thrillers, as her character hints at so much more to explore. The abrupt ending left me craving resolution and more insight into her past with Leo. I have a feeling this is just the beginning of a thrilling series that readers will absolutely adore! 🕵️‍♂️❤️

If you’re a lover of mysteries, thrillers, or even just a good story with a hint of the supernatural, I highly recommend The Witch's Orchard—eagerly anticipating its release on August 12, 2025, just in time for Halloween! 🎃🍂

A huge thank you to NetGalley, Archer Sullivan, and Minotaur Books for providing the eARC in exchange for my honest review. I truly enjoyed this read and can't wait for more! 📖💕

Have you read The Witch's Orchard yet, or are you planning to pick it up? Let me know your thoughts and any other debut novels you’re excited about! 😊✨

Book Review: The Locked Ward by Sarah Pekkanen

First off, a huge shout out to NetGalley, Sarah Pekkanen, and St. Martin's Press for providing me with an eARC of The Locked Ward in exchange for my honest review. You guys are the best! 🙌💖

Now, let’s dive into this riveting read!

Was it… Bitter, all-consuming jealousy? 🤔
Pathological sibling rivalry? 👭
Pure insanity? 😱

Whatever the cause—and trust me, everyone has a theory—it’s the Crime of the Decade when glamorous Georgia Cartwright is accused of killing the biological daughter of her wealthy Southern family.

Locked away in a psychiatric institution for the most violent offenders, Georgia's only plea to her estranged twin sister, Amanda, is: "I didn’t do it. You’ve got to get me out of here." 😰 But the question on everyone’s mind is: can Amanda trust her sister?

The atmosphere of the institution is so eerie and menacing that it feels like stepping into another dimension. 🏥💔 As Amanda navigates the claustrophobic tension, readers are taken on a thrilling ride — questioning whether Georgia is truly a victim of her powerful family or simply a master manipulator weaving a web of lies.

This novel is a beautifully crafted "killer" story that is superbly written! 📖✨ I devoured it in just ONE DAY! The short chapters made it impossible to put down, and I found myself racing through the pages with warp speed! 🏎️💨

Sarah Pekkanen is undoubtedly a master storyteller, weaving in some of the most compelling and gripping plot lines that keep you guessing until the very end. 🕵️‍♀️🔍 I was completely pulled into this psychological thriller, and I cannot express how thrilled I am to have received early access to such a fantastic book!

Final Thoughts:
I wholeheartedly recommend The Locked Ward to anyone who loves a page-turner that keeps you on the edge of your seat! 🎢🔥 Mark your calendars for August 2025 because this one is sure to become a bestseller! Don’t miss out! 📅🛒

Happy reading, everyone! 📚💕

Book Review: The Thrashers by Julie Soto

First and foremost, I want to extend my heartfelt thanks to NetGalley, Julie Soto, and St. Martin's Press for providing me with an advanced reader copy of this captivating novel in exchange for my honest review! 🙏📖💖

Julie Soto has once again delivered a masterfully crafted story that showcases her exceptional talent as an author. The Thrashers, set to release on May 6, 2025, is an enthralling read that dives deep into the complexities of teenage life, making it a gripping addition to the tens & YA genre—though I would advise it for readers 18+ due to its sensitive themes. ⚠️

A Gripping Combination of Thriller, Mystery, and Paranormal Elements 🔍✨

Imagine if 13 Reasons Why collided with Pretty Little Liars—that’s the vibe you’ll get from The Thrashers. I found myself utterly engrossed, staying up until 2 AM because I simply couldn’t put it down! 😱🌙 Soto weaves together elements of thrill and mystery with a touch of the paranormal, creating a page-turner that had me on the edge of my seat.

Meet the Thrashers 👥💔

At the heart of the story is a group known as the "Thrashers," composed of five teenagers: Zack, the charming leader; Jodi, the main POV character; and friends Paige, Lucy, and Julien. Zack’s magnetic personality presents a double-edged sword as he unintentionally entangles the girls in an emotional whirlwind, often leaving them feeling “thrashed”—discarded by their prince charming. This dynamic sets the stage for a gripping exploration of friendship, loyalty, and the dark undercurrents of high school life.

A Heart-Wrenching Turn 💔😢

The plot thickens with the arrival of Emily Mills, a new student whose tragic suicide sends shockwaves throughout the school. The way Soto addresses such sensitive topics—suicide, bullying, statutory issues, and substance abuse—is both poignant and respectful. 💬🖤 While the subjects are heavy, they are woven into the narrative in a manner that adds depth to the characters and the storyline, making it a thought-provoking read.

After Emily’s suicide, a journal is discovered that seems to implicate The Thrashers. 📓😳 The group is brought down to the police station for questioning about their possible influence on Emily’s tragic decision. The tension builds, and the narrative keeps you guessing!

One Tiny Complaint 🥺

Now, while I found nearly every aspect of this book fabulous, I do have one small complaint. The last chapter, while incredibly good and from a different POV, felt too short! 😩💨 I was left wanting more. Can we get a bonus chapter into the future, Julie?! 🙏❤️

Final Thoughts 🌟💫

Overall, I’m giving The Thrashers a solid 4.75 stars. 🌟 I would recommend this book to anyone willing to take the emotional plunge and delve into a world that balances thrill and heavy themes with grace. It’s a story I’ll be thinking about long after I close the cover, and you can bet I’ll be buying a copy for my shelf! 📚✨

📚✨ Book Review: My Dark Prince by Parker S. Huntington & L.J. Shen ✨🎧

I recently had the pleasure of diving into My Dark Prince, the third installment of the Dark Prince Road series by Parker S. Huntington and L.J. Shen, and boy, what a thrilling ride it was! 🎢 I’m incredibly grateful to have received early access from NetGalley and the authors, as well as an exceptional narration by Christian Fox and Andi Arndt. Their performances truly brought this story to life! 🎤👏

What’s It About? 🤔

In this installment, we finally focus on Oliver Von Bismarck, a character we've grown to know in the previous books. And guess what? The love story isn’t just a rehash of what we expected with Frankie—oh no, there's a twist! 🎉 While Frankie plays a crucial role in Ollie’s life, the story dives deeper into his complicated past with Briar Rose, his high school sweetheart, who he lost over a decade ago. 🌹💔

The pet name the authors chose for Briar, “Cuddle Bug”, is adorable and definitely a step up from previous ones! 😂 As the plot unfolds, we learn about the heartbreak that led them apart and the circumstances of their reconnection when fate intervenes. Just as they meet again, an accident leaves Briar with amnesia—she remembers only her past with Ollie and thinks they are still in love! 😳💞

A Deeper Narrative 🌊

What struck me most about this book is how much deeper it goes than I anticipated. It’s not just about the romance—it's about healing, regrets, and the complexity of love. As Briar grapples with her feelings, we get to see Oliver’s vulnerable side. He is damaged and hurting but is also determined to reclaim his life. This exploration of human emotion is where the authors truly shine! ✨

Performance Highlights 🎧

The narration by Christian Fox and Andi Arndt added layers to the characters’ emotions—making the experience far more immersive. Their ability to convey feelings and tension brought Ollie and Briar's story to life in a way that reading alone couldn’t. 🎙️🎶

Final Thoughts 💭

My Dark Prince stands out as a captivating love story filled with twists, emotional depth, and unforgettable characters. 🌟 If you loved the first two books in the series or enjoy a complex and poignant romance, don’t miss this one. Here's hoping to see more from Frankie in future tales! 🤞❤️

Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Recommended for: Fans of contemporary romance, emotional journeys, and those who love an engaging audiobook experience! 🎧💕

Happy reading, everyone! 📖❤️

A Magical Journey with "My Dark Desire" 🌙✨

I just finished diving into My Dark Desire by L.J. Shen and Parker S. Huntington, and oh my goodness, can I just say WOW? This second installment in the Dark Prince Road series has truly surpassed my expectations! With a solid 4.75 stars, this book kept me glued to my seat, racing through the pages like they were made of magic! ✨📚

A Cinderella Story with a Twist 👑

In the first book, Dark Romeo, we were introduced to Zachary Sun – the billionaire IT guru and the best friend of Romero. Now, it's time for Zach to shine in his own spotlight, and this book reads like the ultimate Cinderella fairy tale, but with some edgier twists.

Farrow Ballantine (Fay) is our modern-day Cinderella, whose life has taken a nosedive after the loss of her father. Left in the clutches of a cruel stepmother and stepsisters, she must navigate her new reality while trying to reclaim her late father's belongings. But when her plan to steal back a precious pendant leads her to Zachary Sun's mansion, she gets caught in the act. And instead of turning her in, Zach decides to keep her on as his maid. Talk about a gilded cage! 🏰

A Unique Pairing 👫

Zach has his own struggles, including a severe phobia of human touch stemming from a tragic incident in his childhood. This creates a fascinating virgin trope situation that adds another layer to his character. His pet name for Farrow, "Octi" (short for Octopus), was a bit cringy at first, reminiscent of some moments in the first book. However, I appreciated how the authors intricately wove it into the storyline, making it a pivotal part of their journey to a happy ending. 🐙❤️

As their relationship blossoms, we see Zach start to melt under Farrow’s spirit and stern resolve, while Farrow grapples with her feelings for a man who embodies both her dreams and nightmares. Despite his wealth and power, he begins to reveal a vulnerability that makes him more human. And Farrow’s sharp wit keeps their dynamic electrifying! ⚡

The Book that Stays on Your Bookshelf 🏅

I cannot stress enough how much I loved this book! Not only was it a compelling story of growth and redemption, but it also showcased beautifully the themes of love and overcoming personal demons. The moment I finished reading, I didn’t hesitate to grab the special edition from Amazon, and it's now proudly displayed on my bookshelf!

📚✨ If you're looking for a fresh take on a classic story with compelling characters, emotional depth, and just the right amount of steam, My Dark Desire is a must-read! Grab a cozy spot, a hot drink, and prepare to be swept away!

Having originally rated My Dark Romero four stars, I found it necessary to adjust my rating after diving into the sequel of the Dark Prince Road trilogy. The contrast between the two books has led me to reflect more critically on my experience with this first installment.

Writing Style ✍️

Let me start by giving credit where it's due: the writing style is engaging and fluid. The authors have a knack for creating vivid imagery and keeping the reader hooked with a well-executed plot. I truly appreciated how the storyline unfolded; it kept me intrigued and eager to turn the pages.

Character Development 📉

However, character development left much to be desired. Dallas, the main female character, was particularly frustrating. While I can empathize with her love for books and sweets 🍰, those traits alone do not make for a well-rounded character. Even in the next book, Dark Desire, Dallas is mentioned repeatedly, framed only around her love for food and desserts. It becomes quite repetitive, and honestly, a bit tiresome.

The nickname "Short Bread" given to her by her love interest, Romeo, epitomizes the shortcomings of their dynamic. It’s quite possibly one of the least attractive and least creative pet names I’ve encountered in literature. I believe the authors attempted to craft Dallas as a witty and strong female lead, but she fell flat, lacking depth and dimensions that really make a character relatable and engaging.

The Plot 📖

As for the plot, it does have its intriguing elements. Romeo Castro is a billionaire running a company with his father, and Dallas is a spoiled, Bridgerton-esque 21-year-old who has been thriving off Daddy’s money since birth. The story takes a twist when Dallas becomes betrothed to a man named Madison, an old family friend who also happens to be a major competitor to Romeo's business. In a bid to bring Madison down, Romeo seeks out Dallas to seduce her and ruin her reputation, effectively forcing her into marriage with him instead.

Whether you're a fan of enemies-to-lovers or forced marriage tropes, this book does deliver! 🥰 However, I felt that these elements could have been intertwined with deeper character arcs rather than relying solely on tropes.

Conclusion 🌟

While I found elements of the plot enjoyable, I couldn't shake the feeling that Dallas needed more complexity beyond her dessert obsession to truly resonate. I still plan to read the rest of the trilogy, eager to see how Zachary Sun’s character unfolds in Dark Desire, hoping for the depth in character growth that I felt was lacking here.

It’s a decent read, particularly for those invested in the series, but for me, it fell short compared to its successor. Here’s hoping for more character growth in the upcoming books! 📚💖

Book Review: The Spirit Collection of Thorne Hall by J. Ann Thomas

I want to extend my gratitude to NetGalley, Dreamscape Media, and J. Ann Thomas for providing me with an audiobook ARC of The Spirit Collection of Thorne Hall in exchange for my honest review. 🙏

As a fan of Bly Manor on Netflix, I was immediately drawn to this title when I saw it advertised as having a similar gothic charm. I dove into this book with high hopes and managed to listen to the entire audiobook in a single day. However, I must preface my review with a word of caution: this is a slow burn, and there were multiple moments where I considered DNFing it. ⏳

Pros:

  • Gothic Vibe: The atmosphere Thomas creates is rich with gothic imagery that pulls you into the world of Thorne Hall. 🌑🏰 The setting is beautifully crafted and sets the perfect tone for a haunting story.
  • Exceptional Narration: J. Ann Thomas herself narrates the audiobook, and she does an outstanding job. 🎤 Her voice enhances the mood and intensity of the story, making it an immersive experience.

Cons:

  • Pacing: The slow progression might be a turn-off for some listeners. 🐌 It took time for the storyline to truly engage me, and the pacing could feel frustrating at times.
  • Complex Plot and Characters: There are numerous characters and plot points to follow, which can feel overwhelming. 🤯 The intricacies of the plot made it a bit challenging to keep track of everything, and I found myself momentarily lost in the narrative.

In conclusion, while The Spirit Collection of Thorne Hall delivered a captivating gothic atmosphere and exceptional narration, the complexity of the plot and slow pacing affected my overall enjoyment. For those who appreciate a slow-burn narrative with a strong sense of atmosphere, this book might just be the perfect fit. 🌌 However, be prepared for a complicated journey through a labyrinth of characters and storylines.

I'd recommend giving it a try, especially if you're a fan of gothic tales, but with an understanding that it requires some patience to fully appreciate its beauty. 📚✨

Blood is currency in Bloodwing Academy, but the legacy that comes with a dragon? Priceless.

Medra is in a precarious situation, bluffing her way through encounters while hiding her true weaknesses. The tension is palpable, especially when it comes to her connection with Blake Drakharrow. 💔 What started as a potential alliance turns into a twisted bond of necessity, as she discovers that he’s not just a friend but also her only blood source. How wild is that? 😱

😍 Characters You Can’t Help but Love (and Hate)

The character development is simply chef’s kiss! 👩‍🍳 Medra’s journey is fraught with deception, emotional turmoil, and fierce determination. I’m already on edge waiting for book three to come out in May – is there any way I can get an ARC?! 😅 Seriously though, pick this up ASAP, you will not regret it!

Until next time, happy reading, my fellow fantasy lovers! 📖💖

I could hug NetGalley, Briar Boleyn, and the publisher Starwater Press (Indie) for giving me the opportunity to read On Wings of Blood as an eBook. 📖✨ Published in October 2024, this gem is currently flying under the radar, and it's a crying shame that more readers haven't discovered it! 😱

Overview

On Wings of Blood is the first book in the Blood Wing Academy series, with Book 2 already out and Book 3 coming in May 2025. 🗓️ Briar Boleyn, the author (a pen name), made an impressive shift in genres, reeling me in from the very first page. This novel is a breathtaking mix of fantasy and intrigue and has completely captivated my attention. ❤️

Plot Highlights

The story begins with Medra, a female fae noble, who awakens in a bizarre new world, completely nude and surrounded by dead bodies. 😳 She was supposed to be dead, so how she ended up here is an intriguing mystery! Enter a weaselly character reminiscent of Sméagol from The Lord of the Rings—only, surprise! He’s a vampire. 🧛‍♂️ This world is dominated by vampiric forces, and as she navigates this dark territory, Medra is saved by Blake, the Prince of House Drakarro. 👑

The plot unfolds with a gripping pace; never a dull moment! 🚀 Medra finds herself bound to Blake's nephew as his betrothed, which sets her on a tumultuous path of learning the harsh ways of the vampire high court, while also attending the Blood Wing Academy. The potential for character and world-building is immense, and I can’t get enough of it! 🌌

My Enthusiasm

I adored every single page—Boleyn has a knack for crafting engaging narrative threads that never slacken in tension. 💖 Although I felt the ending was a bit rushed, particularly the burgeoning relationship between Medra and Blake, there's so much room for growth. 🌱 I suspect that the next books will delve deeper into their dynamic. For now, I’m left craving more! 🤤

The world-building feels akin to an adult version of Harry Potter, only with dragons (well, at least one for now) and darker elements. 🐉 I can say without hesitation that I am completely obsessed, and I can’t wait to see what unfolds in the next installment! 🙌

Final Thoughts

On Wings of Blood is an enchanting story that deserves to be read and cherished. If you enjoy fast-paced fantasy with intricate world-building and complex characters, I urge you to dive into this series. Don’t miss out on this indie treasure! 💎✨

Book Review: Wild Eyes by Elise Silver

Oh. My. Goodness! What a whirlwind! 🚀 Wild Eyes had me giggling, swooning, and even tearing up — a delightful cocktail of emotions! 🍹✨

The banter between Fancy Face and Coach Thick Thighs is nothing short of legendary. 🤣🔥 Seriously, every exchange had me laughing out loud! The chemistry between these characters is electric, and let me tell you, this one had me crying 😭 at the same time. It’s a rollercoaster of emotion, and I was here for it! 🎢❤️

If you thought the love story of Rosie and Ford was epic, wait until you meet Weston and Sky! They are EVERYTHING! 🙌💕 Their relationship journey through the challenges of timing and finding themselves is portrayed so beautifully. It really made me reflect on how sometimes, perfection comes in moments — no matter how offbeat the timing may seem. ⏰💔

Skylar Stone, a fabulous country music singer and socialite, finds herself escaping to Rose Hill after a shocking betrayal. 😳 Discovering her previous relationship was puppeteered by her agent and father? Major plot twist! 🎭🔥 With her dreams on the line, she moves to the quaint town for an open invitation to work with Ford and Rosie at the Wild Love Recording Studio. 🎤✨

But her plans take an unexpected turn when she makes an accidental encounter with a mama grizzly bear and her cubs! 🐻😱 Thankfully, in swoops Weston Belmont, the local horse whisperer and single dad to the most adorable kiddos ever. 🐴💖 Honestly, who wouldn’t want a rugged, charming guy to rescue them? Swoon alert! 😍🤠

What I loved most about this book was how Weston embodies the wild spirit of the horses he tames — he can't be tamed himself! 🌌 This makes for such an intriguing dynamic between him and Skylar, both navigating the wild terrains of their lives and hearts. ❤️‍🔥

In summary, Wild Eyes is a magnificent tale filled with laughter, tears, and heartwarming moments. Elise Silver outdid herself, and I can't recommend it enough! 📚🌈 If you want a story that will make you laugh, cry, and root for love, this is it! 👏💘

📚 Book Review: Ambrosia (The Frost and Nectar Duet Conclusion) 🌌

Rating: ★★★☆☆

Praise be! 🙌 The saga of The Frost and Nectar duet has finally reached its end with Ambrosia! However, I must admit that this final installment barely scrapes by with three stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️, primarily due to the sub-par writing and execution that plagued the narrative. 😕

Plot Summary
Ambrosia picks up right where Frost left off, with Ava desperately wishing herself home 🏡, only to be whisked away through a portal into the Unseelie Kingdom 🌫️. Lo and behold, she discovers that she bears golden horns 🦄 and is of Mab descent, placing her squarely at odds with her future husband, King Torin 👑. In a truly predictable twist, Torin leaps into the portal after her (as if we didn't see that coming) 🚀, setting the stage for a host of dangers. The duo finds themselves captured by none other than Queen Mab herself 👸, who puts them through a harrowing ordeal until they agree to a duel to the death ⚔️. Only the victor will return to the Seelie Kingdom. 🌈

Writing Quality
Regrettably, the writing left much to be desired 📉. The choppy POV structure made it challenging to stay immersed in the story 📖, and the overall plot execution felt lacking, which hindered character development and reader engagement. 😩

Character Dynamics
Ava and Torin’s relationship oscillates between tension and reluctant partnership 🤷‍♂️🤷‍♀️, shaped primarily by external conflicts. Unfortunately, their character arcs felt superficial, and I yearned for deeper exploration of their motivations and growth. 🌱

Highlights
Now, all was not lost! 🌟 The final 45 minutes of the book delivered an epic battle scene that had my heart racing 💓. It was well-executed and finally brought the investment and excitement I was hoping to see throughout the narrative. 🔥

Conclusion
In summary, while Ambrosia managed to salvage some hope with its concluding action-packed moments, the journey there was fraught with inconsistencies. 📉 I can’t say I’m glad I dived into this duet, but if you’re curious, perhaps it’s worth picking up for those last exhilarating moments. 🎢

📚 Book Review: Frost (Frost and Nectar #1) by CN Crawford 🌨️

Hey, lovely readers! 💖 Today, I’m diving into Frost, the first book in the Frost and Nectar series. Like a frosty morning, this one’s mixed – some chill vibes, but also a bit of meh. 🤷‍♀️

Let’s talk plot! Ava, our main girl, finds herself in quite the pickle. After catching her longtime boyfriend Andrew (who we’ll call Mr. Irrelevant 😒) in bed with another woman, she drowns her sorrows in a bar with her bestie. It’s here that she meets the super mysterious Seelie Fae King, Torin. Get this: he's searching for contestants for his dating show. Yes, you read that right! A real-life Fae Bachelor situation! 💍😂

What follows is Ava’s drunken proclamation of loathing for all things Fae—and guess what? This leads her into a wild twist where she’s recruited to participate in Torin’s little wife games in exchange for a hefty cash prize! 💰 Perfect for our girl who’s been wronged, right? But amid the drama, there’s a deeper plot: Torin is cursed, and getting too cozy with love could potentially spell doom for anyone who gets too close. 😱

While the setup is intriguing, the execution fell a bit flat for me. The writing... well, let’s just say it didn’t have the sparkle I hoped for. ✨ And the plot? It felt a little predictable, with our heroine constantly referencing Mr. Irrelevant and his impact on her life, even though he pales in comparison to the Fae drama surrounding her.

I’m super curious about how things pan out in book two, so I'm definitely continuing the series! 🌈 But I wish the story and characters had pulled me in more deeply. With such a promising setup involving Fae games and curses, I was hoping for an absolutely spellbinding read.

In conclusion, Frost had its moments but left me wanting a bit more enchantment. If you’re into fae tales and reality TV vibes, give it a try! Just don’t expect too much from the love game. 💔💫

Until next time! 🖤

Review: Deep End by Ali Hazelwood 🌊✨

Hey there, fellow book lovers! 📚💖

I just finished reading Deep End by the incredibly talented Ali Hazelwood, and I cannot contain my excitement! 🎉 This sexy gem deserves a solid 4.75 stars! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✨

To set the mood for this review, let’s have a little fun! 🎶 S&M by Rihanna is blasting in the background, creating the perfect atmosphere to dive into this lush story.

First Impressions 🌟

After trudging through a handful of lackluster reads lately, coming home to Ali's signature writing style felt like wrapping up in a cozy blanket. It was a breath of fresh air that I sorely needed! ❤️

Meet Scarlett: A Force to Be Reckoned With 💪✨

In true Ali fashion, our fabulous female main character, Scarlett, is not just another trope. She’s incredibly intelligent, athletically gifted, and refreshingly humble. I found every part of her relatable and downright likable! 💖 Honestly, I wished the epilogue was a full sequel because I wanted MORE! It left me wanting just a bit more closure.

Lukas: The Perfect Counterpart 💘

Now, let’s talk about the equally charming love interest, Lukas. He may not shine as brightly in the intelligence department (a classic Ali move, am I right? 😉), but he more than makes up for it with his charm and depth. Their connection is filled with chemistry and tension that left me breathless and unable to stop listening.

Trigger Warnings ⚠️

Before you dive in (and trust me, you should), here are some trigger warnings to consider:

  • Exploration of kink and BDSM (all consensual and negotiated)
  • Power exchange dynamics in their relationship
  • Mentions of sports injuries and orthopedic surgeries
  • Off-page abusive relationship dynamics (a manipulative father)
  • Death of a parent (in the past, off-page)
  • Terminal illness (also in the past)
  • Bullying (again, off-page)
  • Explicit and graphic sexual content 🔞
  • Cursing and some vulgar language

Despite these heavier themes, the way Ali captures the eroticism in this book is on another level. The sizzling romance between Scarlett and Lukas overpowers the darker aspects, making it an unforgettable read! 🔥

Final Thoughts 💭

I entered the world of Deep End blind, and I encourage you to do the same! Trust me, it elevates the experience knowing you’re in for a ride. Buckle up, because this one’s a wild journey filled with emotion and steam.

Happy reading, my friends! 📖💕

📚✨ Book Review: The Mortal Queen (The Aisling Trilogy, #1) by Ashley Metzler

Thank you to NetGalley, the author Ashley Metzler, and Bookouture Audio | Second Sky Books for the early access audiobook of The Mortal Queen, beautifully narrated by the incredibly talented Samantha Norbury! 🎧🌟

Now, let’s dive into this enchanting tale! 🌈

🌸 Synopsis

For as long as Aisling can remember, the fae and mortals have been locked in a bitter war. To protect her realm, she has made the ultimate sacrifice: marrying the savage fae king in a desperate bid for peace. But instead of an evil monster, she finds Lir – a king who is alluring, wild, and dangerously perfect. As the wedding approaches, Aisling grapples with her fate while navigating a world filled with magical beasts and deadly enchantments. However, with a brewing connection that feels more than physical, Aisling must ask herself: can she trust Lir, or will her heart's desires set their worlds ablaze? 🔥💔

🎡 My Thoughts

To be honest, this book had its moments. While the slow burn was excruciating at times, and honestly, sometimes felt like I was waiting for a kettle to boil, there was just enough enchantment to keep me flipping those virtual pages! 😂 Because let's be real, when it comes to fantasy, I typically crave a little more spice and romance! 🌶️💖

But here’s the thing: even without that sizzling romance I usually adore, The Mortal Queen still offered a unique and enjoyable experience. 💫 The first person vs. third person narrative switch made it a little tricky to settle into the flow, but once I adapted, I was fully immersed in Aisling's journey.

And can we just take a moment to acknowledge the comparison to authors like Sarah J. Maas? 🙊 That felt like a tall order! While I see the potential for this trilogy to resonate with many YA fantasy readers, it might not quite reach those heights just yet. 🚀

Nonetheless, I do recommend this book to all the fantasy lovers out there who thrive on tales of self-sacrifice, mysterious fae, and blooming transformations. If romance isn’t your top priority, you’ll find the complexities of Aisling's character arc and the moral dilemmas captivating enough! 🌌✨

Overall, I’d rate this a solid 4 stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ (rounded up from 3.75) for its engaging storytelling and fascinating characters, even if it didn’t quite meet all my preferences in the romance department. 💔

🌟 Final Thoughts

In conclusion, The Mortal Queen is worth a listen, especially for those who favor fantasy with a hint of enchantment rather than a steamy love affair. 🧙‍♀️💞 I can genuinely see this series becoming a favorite among readers who love young adult fantasy. Grab your headphones, and dive into Aisling's world – it just might surprise you! 🎧✨

Happy reading (or listening)! 📖💖

📚 Book Review: Close Your Eyes and Count to 10 by Lisa Unger 🌟🌟🌟

Hey everyone! 🌼 I recently got my hands on Close Your Eyes and Count to 10, the latest mystery/thriller by Lisa Unger, thanks to NetGalley! 🎧 Big shoutout to them, the author, and Harlequin Audio for providing me with an early access to the audiobook in exchange for my honest review! 🙏

The premise of this novel piqued my interest from the start—who doesn't love a good hide and seek game show set in a "haunted" location? 🏚️ Perfect for a suspenseful read, right? But, oh boy, things didn't exactly unfold as I had hoped. 😵

The story revolves around Adele, a mom whose life takes a nosedive after her husband gets involved in some shady financial dealings and leaves her with their two kids, practically broke. 😔 Her daughter stumbles upon a social media post promising a whopping million dollars for the winner of a survivalist-style hide and seek game. 🎉 Naturally, Adele, who’s also an aspiring influencer (surprise!), jumps at the chance for the cash and the followers! 📈

Switching gears, we also get Maverick's perspective—the supposed mastermind behind this Escapism game. But here's the kicker: this guy's got his fair share of skeletons, including a mysterious disappearance from a previous game that puts him directly in the hot seat. 🔥 Sounds thrilling, right? Well, sort of...

The problem is, I found the storytelling a bit muddled and hard to follow. 🤯 There were multiple viewpoints, and I often caught myself thinking, "Wait, why?" It felt like there was so much happening, but very little in terms of focus or clarity. To top it off, the hide and seek elements were much more murky than I expected—like, where’s the counting to 10 and all that suspense? 😔

While I did stick with the book hoping for a gratifying ending or a grand revelation, I felt a bit let down. The plot had plenty of potential but ultimately left me wanting more in terms of execution and resolution. 😬 So if you're looking for a wild thrill ride full of twists, maybe tread carefully with this one!

In summary, Close Your Eyes and Count to 10 presents an intriguing concept but struggles with clarity and coherence. 📉 If you're up for a read that relies heavily on various storylines without much payoff at the end, then give it a shot!

Happy reading, friends! 📖✨

Book Review: The Famous by Rachel Lynch ⭐⭐⭐

Hey there, fellow book lovers! 📚✨ Today, I want to chat about The Famous by Rachel Lynch, a gripping psychological thriller that promises to peel back the layers of fame and fortune. I was super excited to dive into this one, especially after snagging early access thanks to NetGalley, the author, and the publisher, Canelo. 🙌

From the book's summary, it's clear that Gloria White is a household name—an embodiment of elegance, charm, and power. But as we all know, things are seldom what they seem. 😏✨ Life in the limelight comes with its own shadows, and Lynch takes us on a wild ride exploring the dark side of fame.

However, despite my eagerness, I have to admit that I walked away feeling a bit underwhelmed. 😕 The characters, for me, were quite unrelatable and honestly, a touch unlikable. I mean, let's talk about Jilly, Gloria's daughter. I found her to be the ultimate embodiment of entitlement. Instead of rooting for Gloria, I often found myself conflicted about her choices, making it hard to engage with the story.

The writing is undeniably engaging, and the premise is intriguing! There's definitely a thriller vibe with a twist of revenge, but I was left wanting more depth. I craved a connection to the characters and their struggles, which, unfortunately, didn't quite deliver. 😔

In summary, The Famous has all the elements of a thrilling read, but the execution fell short for me. While it's not a complete miss—if you’re into psychological dramas exploring fame—you might still find some worth in it! 💔✨

What are your thoughts? Have you read it yet? I'd love to hear your insights! Let’s chat in the comments! 👇😊

📚💖 Book Review: Onyx Storm by Rebecca Yarros 🌩️✨

Drumroll, please! 🥁 Because Onyx Storm, the highly anticipated third installment of the Empyrean series by the one and only, Rebecca Yarros, is finally here! And let me tell you, it was everything I hoped for and more! Cue Klaus Mikaelson from The Originals screaming, "REBECCA!!!!!!" because same. Seriously, the way Rebecca can rip our hearts out with her beautifully crafted words should be illegal! 😩💔

The Journey 🌌

As a spoiler-free reviewer (because I love you all too much to ruin any surprises), I can’t dive into specifics, but my gosh, this book is intense! 🔥 The wait for Book #4 feels like an eternity (until the end of 2027? Not fair, ma’am! 😱), but oh boy, was it worth every minute! I had ZERO complaints – I loved every single second of this book!

Character Development ✨

Let’s talk about Violet. 🌟 The growth Rebecca gives her in Onyx Storm is nothing short of poetic. Everyone knows she's a total badass, but in this installment, we really dive deeper into her strengths. We get a clearer view of her signet and her intelligence, showing us the fierce warrior she has become. 👊🦸‍♀️

And Xaden… my heart! 💖😭 Rebecca crafted his character with so much nuance. What a softy for his woman! The loyalty, the love, and those powerful words of affirmation he gives Violet? Soul-wrenching, truly! Iykyk – but what really melted my heart is when Xaden speaks of his bond with his dragon, Sygael, saying:

“She was the first to choose me, to elevate me above all others, the first to see every ugly side of me and accept it all, and every single person in this fucking canyon will die before they remove a single one of her scales.”

I mean, I sobbed! 🤧💘 It shows the depth of love and loyalty he has for Sygael and perfectly encapsulates their bond.

Humor & Friendship 🤣❤️

I also loved the inclusion of other POVs. Rebecca gave us a fresh look into the relationships and bonds between other riders and their dragons. RIDOC and AOTROM were comedic gold! 🎉 I couldn’t stop laughing, especially at “GTIFLAT” – if you know, you know! 😂 It’s moments like these that balance the emotional weight of the story.

Not to mention, the multiple rider signets manifesting? Everything! 💫 Some even getting second ones! It added depth and excitement to the universe of the Empyrean series.

Ready for the Next Adventure? 🚀

Prepare yourselves for a rollercoaster of heartbreak, joy, and a ton of burning questions and theories to keep us occupied during this wait of 2+ years! 😱 Will Violet succeed in her quest? What truths will she uncover?

If you haven’t already immersed yourself in The Empyrean Series, now is the time! 🌈✨ Onyx Storm is a brilliant tapestry of love, loyalty, and the strength of a warrior paved with unforgettable moments.

Happy reading, fellow book lovers! Until next time! 📖💕

🎧 Review of The Crash by Freida McFadden🚗💥

Freida McFadden has done it again with her newest thriller, The Crash! I’m thrilled to say this one is definitely among her better works, and it reminded me a lot of the anticipation and gripping storytelling we experienced in The Housemaid. I absolutely devoured this book! 📚✨

A Gripping Read from the Start 🔍

From the very first page, The Crash pulls you into a whirlwind of survival, manipulation, and maternal instinct. Tegan Werner, an eight-month-pregnant woman on the run from a traumatic past, finds herself stranded in rural Maine during a blizzard. What seems like a fortunate rescue by a seemingly kind couple quickly spirals into a psychological nightmare! 😱❄️ McFadden’s background as a practicing physician specializing in brain injury shines through, creating authentically terrifying scenarios that feel disturbingly plausible.

Plot Analysis & Narrative Structure 📝

Now let’s get into the nitty-gritty. Freida employs a clever four-part structure that begins with “After the Crash.” This prologue hooks you right away with a mysterious murder that has you asking, “What just happened?!” Then, the narrative dives back in time to explore the events leading up to and following the crash. The alternating perspectives—primarily Tegan’s and Polly’s—offer a chilling insight into both the victim and the captor’s minds, and honestly? Chef's kiss! 👩‍🍳💋

In typical queen of twists McFadden fashion, expect to experience some serious whiplash! I promise you’ll encounter moments that will leave you gasping, “I DID not see that coming!” 😳💥

Final Thoughts 🎉

Overall, The Crash is a thrilling ride that grips you tightly and doesn’t let go. Highly recommended! If you enjoy a psychological thriller that keeps you on the edge of your seat, go get a copy! You won't regret it! 📖💖

Happy reading, everyone! Let me know what you think when you dive into The Crash! 💬✨

🎧 Review of The Vanishing of Josephine Reynolds by Jennifer Moorman

Hello, lovely readers! 🌟

I’m excited to share my thoughts on The Vanishing of Josephine Reynolds by the talented Jennifer Moorman, which I had the pleasure of experiencing as an early access audiobook. A huge thank you to NetGalley, HarperCollins Focus | Harper Muse, and, of course, the author herself! 🙏

This was my first audiobook narrated by the incredible Kathleen McInerney, and let me tell you—she did not disappoint! Her voice brought the characters to life in a way that made me feel like I was living the story alongside them. 🎤✨

From the first chapter, I was drawn into Josephine’s deeply moving journey. After the sudden loss of her husband, Nathan, she finds herself lost in grief, even wishing she’d never been born. 💔 But when her concerned sister encourages her to purchase their ancestral Craftsman bungalow—one that’s in dire need of love—things start to change.

The magic truly begins when Josephine discovers the home's original door in a salvage yard. Once she installs it and steps through, she’s transported back to 1927! Here, she meets her adventurous great-grandmother Alma, who’s living life to the fullest as she runs an illegal speakeasy in the bungalow's basement. 🍸🎷 The vibrant Jazz Age setting is simply enchanting, and I loved the bond that forms between Josephine and Alma.

However, the stakes quickly rise when Josephine realizes that changing the course of history may also mean saving her own existence. The tension is palpable as she races against time to rewrite the past! ⏳🔥

Now, why did I give this novel a solid 4 stars? ⭐️ While I adored the overall story and its depth, the ending left me wanting a little more. I craved a deeper exploration of what lies ahead for Josephine, especially since my emotions were so intertwined with her journey. I laughed, I cried, and I genuinely wanted to see what happens next.

If you enjoyed The Seven Year Slip by Ashley Posten or The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue by V.E. Schwab for their overall vibe, I highly recommend diving into The Vanishing of Josephine Reynolds—it’s a beautifully crafted blend of history, emotion, and magical realism. 📚💕

Thanks for reading, and happy listening! 🎉

Under Loch and Key by Lana Ferguson 🌟🌟🌟

Book Review

I was super excited to dive into Under Loch and Key by Lana Ferguson! 🎉 I’m a massive fan of her writing, and when I heard this would be a paranormal romance, I couldn’t wait to get my hands on it. After absolutely loving The Fake Mate (which was a solid 5 stars for me!), I had high hopes for this new release. But let me tell you, when the Loch Ness monster came into play, I was not ready for that twist! 😳🐉

🌼 Synopsis

Keyanna “Key” MacKay has always been surrounded by secrets, a fact that only deepens after her father’s passing. With nothing but a childhood bedtime story about a monster that saved his life and a name—her estranged grandmother—Key heads to Scotland, unsure of what awaits her. Enter Lachlan Greer, a brooding Scotsman with secrets of his own, who pulls her from danger and thinks she’s a complete idiot (charming, right? 😏).

The story unfolds with mysterious family dynamics, strange powers awakening in Key, and a curse that could change everything. Can their secrets collide to save them both, or will they drown in a Loch-mess of trouble? 💔⚡

🌟 What I Liked

  1. Intriguing Premise: The concept of a Loch Ness monster romance was definitely unique! While it took me by surprise, it made for a fun twist in the genre. 🥳🐍

  2. Character Development: Key and Lachlan had their own individual struggles, which made their growth throughout the story enjoyable to watch. Key’s determination and Lachlan’s grumpy demeanor provided a nice push-pull dynamic. 💪☀️

  3. Setting: The Scottish backdrop was beautifully described and added a charming layer to the story, making me want to explore more of Scotland! ☘️🏴‍☠️

🌧️ What I Struggled With

Despite these positives, I found some aspects of the book a bit lacking. I expected a captivating energy similar to The Fake Mate, but the pacing felt uneven. Some sections dragged on longer than necessary, which made it tough for me to stay fully engaged. ⏳

Additionally, the romantic chemistry between Key and Lachlan didn’t quite reach the levels I hoped for. While there were moments of connection, the passion felt subdued, missing that electric spark I often seek in romance novels. ⚡🌀

📚 Final Thoughts

Overall, Under Loch and Key was an entertaining read with its quirky concept and endearing characters, but it didn’t quite hit the mark for me like I had hoped. I’d give it a solid 3 stars ⭐⭐⭐ and recommend it to those who enjoy paranormal twists and unique monsters—even if it's a Loch Ness monster! If you’re curious or a fan of Lana Ferguson, give it a shot.

Have you read it? Let’s discuss! I’d love to hear your thoughts! 👇💬

Happy reading! 📖✨

Book Review

I recently finished Wild Love by Elsie Silver, and I can't stop thinking about it! 🥰 Between its gripping narrative and relatable characters, this book is an absolute gem, and I'm thrilled to add all her other novels to my TBR! 📚💖

🌼 Synopsis

  2. Relatable Characters: Ford and Rosie are brilliantly written, flawed yet relatable. Their struggles made me root for them even more! 💔🥳

  3. Emotional Depth: The book dives into profound themes of grief, loss, and redemption. The portrayal of Ford's journey as a father and Rosie's quest for independence was heartwarming. 😭❤️

  4. Romantic Tension: The sparks between Ford and Rosie were sizzling! The mix of unresolved feelings and emotional baggage gave their interactions an irresistible edge. 🔥💞

Before diving into Wild Love, I’d like to highlight some important trigger warnings:

  • Sexual harassment 🚫

Hey, Besties! 💖✨ I just finished reading Jessie Hall's latest dark romance, Green Light, on Kindle Unlimited, and WOW, what a ride! It took me a few days to get through this intense story—not because it was bad, but because it's graphic and seriously intense! 😳🔥

📚 Book Review: The Never King by Nikki St. Crowe ⭐⭐

Hey everyone! 🌈 I'm diving into my thoughts on "The Never King," the first book in the Vicious Lost Boys series by Nikki St. Crowe. Spoiler alert: this one was a struggle for me. 😅💔

Summary 📖

In this reimagined twist on the classic tale, Peter Pan has lost his shadow. The only way to retrieve it? Kidnap all the "Darling" girls on their 18th birthday. Sounds wild, right? 😳 According to Peter, he lost his shadow after killing Tinkerbell, who is painted as a vindictive brat obsessed with him. Why are so many authors making Tink the villain? I want to see a story where Tinkerbell and Peter are doing the dirty, and Wendy is the one causing all the trouble! That would be so much better! 🎭✨

Thoughts 💭

Honestly, I wanted to love this book. But it was a miracle I even managed to finish it. 😩 The characters left much to be desired. There was barely anything to Wendy's personality—she felt like just a placeholder in this story. Seriously, Tinkerbell, even in her dead form, has more depth and personality than Wendy! And Wendy? Well, all we really know is that she’s a hot girl who likes to have sex. 🙄

Pros 👍

  • Creative Idea: I appreciate the unique twist on a beloved fairy tale. 🌟
  • Drama Potential: There was definitely potential for drama, but it didn’t quite hit the mark for me.

Cons 👎

  • Weak Characterization: Both Peter and Wendy felt one-dimensional, making it hard to connect with them at all. 😓
  • Plot Execution: The pacing dragged, and I had to push myself to keep reading, hoping things would improve.
  • Underwhelming Representation: I was left disappointed by how the female characters were portrayed—Wendy had zero personality.

Final Thoughts 📝

I can't lie—this book was just not for me. I'm bummed because I really dislike not finishing something, especially after investing my time in it. As much as I wanted to see the potential in this series, I’m not sure I can keep going. If you’re into spicy reimaginings of fairy tales, maybe give this a shot, but be warned! ⚠️

What do you all think? Have you read "The Never King"? I'd love to hear if someone enjoyed it more than I did! 💬💕

📚 Book Review: Keep Me by Sara Cate ⭐⭐⭐⭐

Hello friends! 🌟 I'm excited to share my thoughts on "Keep Me," the first book in the Sinful Manor series by Sara Cate. This novel has it all: brooding Scots, complicated relationships, and a tantalizing marriage of convenience! 🍀💍

Summary 📖

Killian Barclay just wants to be left alone in his ancestral home, far away from the heartbreaks of the past. Known as a moody Scot and notorious for throwing wild parties, he’s solidly built up a reputation he seems to enjoy. Enter Sylvie Devereaux—a tough-as-nails New Yorker with a complex history of her own. 🌆 When she sneaks into Barclay Manor to see a famous heirloom, she encounters Killian, setting off a fiery clash and an unexpected turn of events.

Weeks later, Killian's family proposes a solution for his playboy image—marry Sylvie for a year, and she gets a whopping ten million dollars when it’s over! 💰 But lurking beneath the surface is a relationship that evolves into something deeper. As they grow closer, Sylvie must confront whether she's willing to break Killian's heart when their time runs out.💔

Thoughts 💭

I absolutely LOVED this book! The combination of age gaps, Irish charm, and the clever use of a marriage of convenience had me hooked from the very first page! 🎣 The banter between Killian and Sylvie? 😍 Chef's kiss! The tension was palpable, and it made every interaction between them electric!

Pros 👍

  • Dynamic Characters: Both Killian and Sylvie have rich backstories that add depth and make them relatable. 👫
  • Romantic Tension: The slow burn of their evolving relationship is perfectly executed, keeping the reader on the edge of their seat! 🔥
  • Engaging Writing: Sara Cate's writing style balances humor, emotion, and steamy moments beautifully! 🎉

Cons 👎

  • Familiar Tropes: While the book is enjoyable, some readers might find the tropes (like the marriage of convenience) familiar. However, the unique character dynamics give it a fresh spin! 🌪️
  • Pacing: There were moments where the story felt a bit slow, but overall, it pulled me back in with its engaging dialogue.

Final Thoughts 📝

"Keep Me" delivers a delicious blend of romance and intrigue that's hard to resist! 💖 If you enjoy age gap romances, brooding heroes, and witty banter, then this book is definitely for you!

I highly recommend checking it out—I'm looking forward to diving into more of Sara Cate's work in the future! Bring on the next book! 📚✨ Have you read "Keep Me"? What did you think? Let’s discuss! 💬💕

📚 Book Review: One Pucked Up Pack by Sarah Blue ⭐⭐⭐

First off, let me just say, hockey and reverse harem? Count me IN! 🙌❄️ "One Pucked Up Pack" is the first book in the Pucked Up Omegaverse series, and it certainly serves up some steamy moments alongside a whirlwind of emotions! 🥰

Summary 📖

Charlotte Hodges is living the dream when she accidentally finds her ideal pack just before graduation. But, life throws a curveball (or rather, a hockey puck) her way as the men she's falling for are all off to different teams! Talk about a tough break! 😬 With long distance relationships and trust issues looming, Charlotte’s journey is far from smooth. Can her love for these three alphas survive the chaos? 🏒💔

Thoughts 💭

I dove into this book after being assigned to review it for Darkly. Honestly, it was a decent read! The chemistry between Charlotte and her three dreamboats is sizzling, and I’ve got to admit, the appeal of having one omega in the spotlight with three alphas is just 🤤.

For me, Anders stood out as the clear #1 in the pack with his charming personality and undeniable chemistry with Charlotte. It's always fun to see how dynamics play out in reverse harem romances, and Sarah Blue delivered on that front! 🔥

Pros 👍

  • Gripping Read: The plot kept my interest throughout, with just the right amount of drama and romance.
  • Strong Character Dynamics: The relationships felt layered and complex, which added depth to the story. 💖
  • Omegaverse & Poly Romance Lovers Will Rejoice: If that’s your jam, this book ticks all the boxes! ✔️

Cons 👎

  • Not for Everyone: The long-distance element may frustrate some readers, and it’s a bit of a bumpy ride emotionally for Charlotte.
  • Personal Choice: I'm opting out of reading book 2 for personal reasons, but that’s just me!

Final Thoughts 📝

Overall, "One Pucked Up Pack" is enjoyable, especially for fans of poly romance and the omegaverse genre! 🌟 If you love seeing an omega navigating love with multiple alphas while dealing with life’s challenges, this one might just hit the spot for you! 🥳

So, grab your skates and get ready for a wild ride! 🥅 #TeamCharlotte

Book Review: Phantasma by Kaylie Smith 📚✨

Rating: ⭐⭐⭐½

If you’re a fan of magical realism and sinister challenges, you might find Kaylie Smith’s Phantasma intriguing—although it might not quite live up to the lofty expectations set by its description. While the premise draws immediate comparisons to Caraval, I found that Phantasma lacks the depth and engaging prose that made its predecessor so compelling. 🤔

A Brief Overview 🌌

Phantasma follows the story of Ophelia Grimm, a necromancer whose sister has mysteriously vanished. To rescue her, Ophelia plunges into Phantasma, a treacherous contest set within a haunted mansion 🏰, where she must face nine perilous challenges to claim a wish that could save her sister. It's a classic tale of high stakes and supernatural thrills, layered with a dash of romance courtesy of the enigmatic Blackwell ❤️‍🔥, who offers both assistance and a deepening attraction.

Setting and Atmosphere 🎭

One of my main criticisms revolves around the lack of descriptive richness in the narrative. The twisted corridors and lavish ballrooms, which should have felt alive with haunting beauty, often fell flat. I longed for more vivid imagery—a chance to really see, feel, and experience the eerie atmosphere that Phantasma promised. This absence made it difficult to become fully immersed in the world Smith had created. 🌌

Characters That Missed the Mark 🚶‍♀️🔍

Character development is another area where Phantasma struggled. Ophelia, as a necromancer, piqued my interest, but the execution left me wanting. Her powers felt almost nonexistent—she rarely showcased her abilities in a meaningful way, leaving her profession feeling like more of an afterthought. The potential for depth was there, especially with a character like Blackwell, who had the charisma to captivate, but even he often felt one-dimensional. 😕

The Climax and Resolution 🔚✨

The "big reveal" towards the end did offer a few connecting threads that made the journey somewhat rewarding, but overall, the resolution didn't pack the punch I had hoped for. It was more of a “that’s it?” moment than a grand finale, which diminished my overall enjoyment of the book. 😬

Conclusion 📝🌟

In summary, Phantasma is a book with great potential that ultimately falls short of delivering a memorable experience. It’s a decent read for those curious about its intriguing premise, but those hoping for the rich world-building and character depth found in similar novels may feel disappointed. If you enjoy stories about life-and-death stakes with a sprinkle of romance, this may still be worth your time. Just don’t expect it to rival the likes of Caraval. 🙁

Overall, Phantasma offers an entertaining adventure but could have been much more with a bit more depth and polish. 🌌📖✨

A Spellbinding Journey: Review Of The Vanishing Bookstore By Helen Phifer 🌟

I was absolutely thrilled when I received early access to The Vanishing Bookstore through NetGalley, BookCouture, and the author herself! 📚✨ Listening to this enchanting audiobook was one of those experiences that felt like slipping into a beloved old sweater—comforting, warm, and utterly delightful.

From the moment the story unfolded, I was transported back to my childhood, reminiscing about magical shows like Charmed, Practical Magic, and Witches of East End. Helen Phifer masterfully intertwines historical fiction and fantasy in a way that rekindles that same joy I felt as a young witchy dreamer. 🔮🌙

A Gripping Beginning 🧙🏻‍♀️

The novel opens with a harrowing flashback to the witch trials, setting a tone that feels both eerily haunting and compelling. It introduces us to the fierce Lenora English, whose refusal to accept a marriage proposal from a witch hunter leads to devastating consequences for her family. This sets the stage for an exhilarating ride as we follow Lenora's sisters—Sephie, Luc, and Dora—on their journey to reclaim their lives amidst a backdrop of curses and danger. 🕯️💔

With their unforgettable familiar, Hades the crow, guiding them, the story beautifully explores themes of sisterhood, resilience, and the powers of protection.

The Cycle Of Rebirth 💫

What makes The Vanishing Bookstore truly unique is the haunting concept that the girls, along with the witch hunter, are trapped in a cycle of rebirth, doomed to suffer the same fate in each lifetime. Each time they are resurrected, memories of their past lives linger just out of reach, creating a sense of urgency and desperation. Enter Dora, who in this modern-day incarnation is blissfully unaware of her witchy heritage or her familial ties.

Raised by her aunt Lenny, Dora leads a simple life in Boston, running a flower shop and she feels something missing, yet can't quite put her finger on it. But when a mysterious man with nearly black eyes and a peculiar scent steps into her shop, everything changes. Lenny, sensing the pull of destiny, persuades Dora to embark on a journey to Salem. 🌸

Awakening And Adventure 💫

As they arrive in Salem, Dora is unknowingly drawn into the depths of her past. She learns that she has a mother she never knew existed and an aunt —Sephie and Luc—are waiting for her. As memories begin to flood back, the emotional weight of their intertwined fates crashes down around her, revealing the true stakes: it’s up to her to find the ancient book hidden in the vanishing bookstore from their first lifetime. This book holds the key to breaking the cyclical curse and saving her family. 📖🔑

As Dora delves deeper into her reborn identity, she comes to the shocking realization that she not only has the power to save her aunts but that she must confront the witch hunter who has plagued their lives for centuries. With the knowledge that his defeat is essential to breaking the curse, Dora’s journey shifts from merely surviving to taking decisive action. The stakes couldn’t be higher. Dora must summon the courage to face the man who has caused so much pain, and ultimately, it falls to her to kill the witch hunter once and for all. ⚔️✨

A True Gem 💎

To put it simply, this book is a treasure! Helen Phifer has crafted a narrative that not only draws you deep into its fantastical world but also resonates with heartfelt emotion. The characters feel real, their struggles palpable, and their victories immensely satisfying. If you're a fan of stories that blend history and magic with a side of adventure, this one is a must-read. 🌌💖

Overall, The Vanishing Bookstore is a magnificent tale that deserves all five stars and more! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ I can't recommend it enough, especially to those who, like me, long for the enchanting worlds of witchcraft and wonder. Thank you to Helen Phifer for this remarkable journey; I can't wait to see what she conjures up next! 🎉📖

Book Review: The Starlight Heir by Amalie Howard ★★★☆☆

I want to extend my gratitude to NetGalley, HarperAudio Adult, and the author for the audiobook ARC in exchange for my honest review. I was truly excited about this fantasy novel, especially since the cover art is absolutely breathtaking!

I really enjoyed the narration of the audiobook, which added an engaging layer to the story. However, I would rate the book as 3 stars. While it has some commendable elements, I found it hard to fully connect with the narrative.

The Starlight Heir follows the journey of Suraya Saab, a blacksmith's daughter whose family runs an inn. Her life takes a dramatic turn when she receives a court invitation, calling her as a potential bride for the prince. Although Suraya doesn't desire to marry him and feels she lacks the qualities of a princess, she sees this as a chance to escape her ordinary existence and embark on an adventure in the capital.

Upon her arrival, she quickly realizes that making a good impression on the court and the royal family is more challenging than she anticipated. Instead of being sent home, Suraya is allowed to participate in a bridal trial with high stakes. As she attempts to fit in, she inadvertently captures the prince’s attention. However, she soon discovers that the real goal isn’t to find him a bride, but to identify the Starkeeper—a mythical girl believed to hold the magic of the stars, which they think is her.

Things take a turn when a rebel faction dissatisfied with the royal family attacks the castle. Suraya escapes with the help of Roshan, the prince’s charming illegitimate half-brother. Together, they find themselves on the run from the queen and the prince, who are eager to capture her and harness her uncontrollable magic to awaken a forgotten dark god with nefarious intentions for Suraya and her world.

While the premise is strong and I appreciated the characters and plot, I struggled with the pacing and writing style. The beginning had rich descriptions that drew me in, but as the story progressed, the settings became overly simplistic. For instance, just stating that the characters are in a red sandy desert felt too straightforward and left me wanting more.

Furthermore, the pacing felt a bit rushed—not in a frantic way, but there were clear opportunities to explore the characters and events more deeply. I also found it a bit odd that the book, set in a more traditional world, included contemporary phrases like "toxic masculinity," which felt somewhat jarring.

In conclusion, while The Starlight Heir has a lot to offer and will likely resonate with many readers, I personally felt it lacked the depth and immersive quality I was hoping for.

Book Review: The Songbird and the Heart of Stone by Carissa Broadbent ★★★★½

First off, how dare you, Carissa Broadbent!? Leave us on that level of a cliffhanger?? I mean, WOW! Your talent is purely unfair! After what felt like an eternity of anticipation, I’m thrilled to say that The Songbird and the Heart of Stone has delivered everything I wanted and more. If this is just the beginning of the Shadowborn duet, I can't wait to see where it goes next!

A Captivating Journey

In this enthralling fantasy, we follow Mische, a woman who has lost everything—her home, her humanity, and the love of the sun god she dedicated her life to. Facing the most bittersweet punishment for the murder of the vampire prince who turned her, she unexpectedly finds redemption in the arms of Asar, the bastard prince of the House of Shadow. Destiny pushes them on a treacherous mission to the underworld to resurrect the god of death himself—a daunting task that comes with its own perilous trials.

I was completely engrossed in Mische’s journey as she ventured into Shadowborn territory and navigated the dangers of the underworld. The way Broadbent paints the world, I could feel the eerie horror/thriller vibes rising from the pages, making this book more than just a typical vampire novel.

A Strong Protagonist

Mische has always held a special place in my heart and I was eager to dive deeper into her past!—the interludes capturing her journey from an innocent child to a complex woman fighting to regain her humanity made my heart ache. Even as she battles the darkness, she is fiercely determined to hold onto what makes her human. Her evolution into accepting her dual nature—both as a vampire and a human—was nothing short of inspiring.

The Perfect Pair: Mische and Asar

Let’s talk about Asar. He quickly snagged the title of my favorite new vampire. As a Shadowborn, he wields powers over darkness and reads minds, making him both intriguing and mysterious. Beneath his brusque exterior lies a depth and warmth that transforms him into a total cinnamon roll—well, if cinnamon rolls wield swords! Their slow-burn relationship was a highlight for me, and I truly appreciated how their bond developed amidst the chaos surrounding them.

Oh, and we can’t forget about the fantastic side characters like Chandra and Luce, who were essential to the plot. They added depth to Mische and Asar's journey, further enriching the story.

Plot Twists and Emotional Depth

The plot twists were utterly unexpected, leaving me gasping at every turn. Both Mische and Asar are haunted by their dark pasts, and Broadbent masterfully explores the emotional scars that shape them. The journey into the underworld is beautifully divided into five parts, representing the Descent, and the writing style aligns seamlessly with the previous books in the series.

Themes of Family and Acceptance

Above all, The Songbird and the Heart of Stone is a powerful story about found family, confronting your demons, and learning to embrace yourself despite your imperfections. It left me reflecting on my own struggles with acceptance while rooting for Mische as she forged her path.

Conclusion

Overall, this book deserves every bit of praise it’s receiving. Carissa Broadbent has crafted a tale that's as haunting as it is heartfelt, filled with complex characters, breathtaking journeys, and unexpected twists. I can't wait for the next installment because I need more of Mische and Asar’s story! Hurry up, Carissa! The readers are waiting! 🌟✨

Book Review: Quicksilver by Callie Hart ★★★★★

Oh. My. Goodness. I just finished Quicksilver, and I can confidently say that it is sheer perfection! Callie Hart’s latest masterpiece has completely captivated me, and I simply cannot wait for the next installment to arrive. Hurry up, Callie!

What is Quicksilver about?

Set in the enchanting yet treacherous realm of Zilvaren, Quicksilver follows the journey of twenty-four-year-old Saeris Fane, a fierce young woman surviving through the art of thievery. But everything shifts drastically when she unexpectedly confronts Death, inadvertently opening the gateway to the mesmerizing yet perilous Fae realm. This action sets off a cascading series of events, including forging a bond with a mysterious warrior, navigating deadly conflicts, and uncovering her long-hidden powers.

Let me tell you, the moment I finished this book, I sprinted to grab all the available SE books to proudly place on my shelf. Quicksilver is nothing short of a masterpiece! I have zero complaints—aside from my desperate hope that the author releases book two quite soon!

An Audiobook Experience Like No Other

I experienced this fantastic tale via Audible, and let me tell you, the narration added a whole new level of epicness. The narrators brought Saeris and Kingfisher to life, making the Quicksilver experience positively enthralling and unforgettable!

A Glimpse at the Magic

One of my absolute favorite moments in the book is captured in this stunning excerpt:

“Don’t call her sunshine,” he commanded.
“Why not?”
“Because she is moonlight. The mist that shrouds the mountains. The bite of electricity in the air before a storm. The smoke that rolls across a battlefield before the killing starts. You have no idea what she is. What she could be. You should call her Majesty.”

SWOON!

Deep Themes and Relatable Characters

Hart expertly weaves complex political landscapes and richer plotlines throughout Quicksilver. Saeris’s life in the Third—the oppressive region ruled by the tyrannical Undying Queen—mirrors a struggle for survival against unimaginable odds. The way Saeris fiercely protects her brother while navigating a brutal existence warmed my heart. Familial loyalty shines brightly against hardship here, making her every decision resonate deeply.

The core themes of oppression and resistance take your breath away as Saeris and Kingfisher clash against the power structures controlling Zilvaren. The quicksilver magic acts as a metaphor for Saeris’s own untapped potential, mirroring her journey of self-discovery and growth.

Enemies to Lovers: A Dynamic Tension

And let’s not forget about the deliciously riveting enemies-to-lovers dynamic between Saeris and Kingfisher! Their initial hostility transforms through their reluctant alliance, evolving into something beautifully tender and powerful. It’s a romance that deeply explores the themes of personal growth and emotional vulnerability, reminding us of the strength that lies within understanding and acceptance.

Conclusion

In summary, Quicksilver is an absolute triumph in the fantasy genre—an exhilarating romp through a world bursting with magic, political intrigue, and unforgettable characters. If you haven’t yet sunk your teeth into this brilliant story, do yourself a favor and dive in. You won’t regret it! I’m counting the days until book two arrives. Hurry, Callie, we need more of this extraordinary journey! 🌟✨

Book Review: The Ex Vows by Jessica Joyce ★★★★☆

I want to extend my gratitude to the author, Jessica Joyce, for crafting such a heartfelt story in The Ex Vows. This delightful romance gave me major Happy Place vibes by Emily Henry, while still maintaining its own unique charm.

Overview

At the heart of this story are Georgia Woodward and Eli Mora, former lovers who parted ways five years ago due to misunderstandings and life choices. Their reunion as the best man and best woman at a friend’s wedding not only reopens old wounds but also forces them to confront their unresolved feelings and the emotional baggage of their past.

Themes and Tropes

As a fan of second chance romances, I found this narrative incredibly compelling. Yes, this trope is often predictable, but I appreciated how Joyce infused depth into the storyline. The exploration of love, personal growth, and the messy, imperfect nature of relationships was refreshing. I particularly loved Eli’s character arc, as it was touching to see him acknowledge his flaws and seek therapy to rectify past wrongs—something that truly sets this story apart from typical romances.

Writing Style

Joyce’s writing is beautiful and eloquent, elevating the emotional weight of the story. This narrative went beyond being just another romance; it delved into deeper themes that many books tend to gloss over. The relatable struggles faced by Georgia and Eli resonated with me, making their journey feel genuine and impactful.

Conclusion

The Ex Vows is a heartwarming tale that beautifully balances romance with realism. As Georgia and Eli navigate the complexities of their rekindled feelings, readers are treated to a story that celebrates growth and the sometimes messy nature of love. If you’re looking for a thoughtful yet enjoyable read that tackles the hard things in life while still being romantic, this book is definitely worth picking up. Well done, Jessica Joyce!

Book Review: Blood of Hercules by Jasmine Mas ★★★½

First off, a heartfelt thank you to NetGalley, Harlequin Audio, and the talented author, Jasmine Mas, for providing me early access to this audiobook in exchange for my honest review.

Overview

Blood of Hercules takes readers on a reimagined journey through Greek mythology, where sarcasm, dark fantasy, and romance blend in unexpected ways. The story follows a foster child who discovers she possesses Herculean blood and must navigate a world ruled by Spartans — a class of immortals with god-like powers.

Writing Style

One of the standout features of Mas's writing is her engaging narrative style. Despite the ancient setting, she breathes a modern freshness into the dialogue, making the story feel both vibrant and relatable. Her ability to weave humor into darker themes kept things interesting.

Plot Development

However, while the concept is intriguing and the premise compelling, I found that the plot took considerable time to gain momentum. It wasn’t until quite late in the book—around the 80% mark—that the protagonist's true strength is revealed. This pacing made it challenging to stay fully invested, as I craved a stronger portrayal of her inherent power from the get-go.

Characterization

As for the protagonist, I struggled with the portrayal of her character. The "poor little weak girl" trope, while often prevalent in young adult literature, didn’t resonate with me here. The book summary suggests she is a strong heroine, yet this aspect felt underdeveloped until much later in the narrative. Additionally, the presence of multiple tropes left me a bit overwhelmed, as it seemed Mas was experimenting with a variety of fantasy genres rather than honing in on a single one.

Conclusion

Overall, Blood of Hercules has a lot of potential, and I truly appreciated the author's creative approach and unique writing style. While the plot could benefit from a more focused direction and character development, I look forward to seeing how Jasmine Mas continues to evolve this story in the upcoming follow-ups.

If you're a fan of dark fantasy romance with a twist, this book is likely to pique your interest. I'm excited to see the journey unfold!

🔍 Book Review: This Book Will Bury Me by Ashley Winstead

⭐⭐⭐⭐☆ (3.75/5)

Hey everyone! 🌟 I’m super excited to share my thoughts on Ashley Winstead’s latest thriller, This Book Will Bury Me. Huge shoutout to NetGalley, Ashley, and Sourcebooks Landmark for giving me early access to this gripping ebook in exchange for my honest review. As a longtime fan of Ashley’s work, I couldn’t wait to dive into this one—after all, if she writes it, I’ll read it!

Right from the start, this book sucked me in. It’s the kind of story that compels you to keep turning pages, and I found myself awake until 2 AM for two nights straight! 😴💤

The plot revolves around Janeway, a 24-year-old who, after losing her father, joins an online true crime network to escape the harsh realities of grief. The intrigue deepens when she’s invited into a small group of four other "high-profile" sleuths, leading her down a dark and obsessive path where she faces pending criminal charges and an embarrassing book that threatens to “bury” her reputation.

What I loved most about This Book Will Bury Me is the emotional core. Janeway’s desire to distract herself from her pain and her search for understanding truly resonated with me. As a fellow true crime enthusiast, I appreciated the unique plot twist of blending online sleuthing with personal anguish.

However, there were moments where I felt the narrative got a bit tangled. Some plotlines, like Janeway’s exploration of her father's Star Trek fandom, felt a little extraneous. While I understand the connection it aimed to create, some long conversations and subplots seemed to wander off course.

And can we talk about the Star Trek fanfiction woven into the plot? 🤔 Honestly, I found myself skipping those sections. I can’t help but wonder if Ashley, as a possible "Trekkie," incorporated those elements for readers who are die-hard fans of the franchise. Unfortunately, for someone not well-versed in Star Trek lore, it felt like a detour that distracted from the thrilling murder mystery at hand.

All that being said, I still enjoyed the ride! 🎢 My lack of familiarity with Star Trek doesn’t diminish the book's overall quality—it’s just a personal quirk of mine. I’ll definitely be adding this gem to my Ashley Winstead collection and recommending it to anyone looking for a captivating thriller. Keep your eyes peeled for its release in March—you won’t want to miss it!

Thanks again to Ashley and the publishing team for this electrifying read! Can’t wait to hear what everyone else thinks about This Book Will Bury Me! 📚✨

Book Review: Dream Girl Drama by Tessa Bailey ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

I want to take a moment to give a huge shout-out and warm hug to NetGalley, Tessa Bailey, and HarperCollins Publishers for providing me with an advance ebook copy of Dream Girl Drama in exchange for my honest review. Let me tell you, saying I was eagerly anticipating this book feels like an understatement of epic proportions. Tessa Bailey DELIVERED, and I couldn't wait to share my excitement!

A Complicated Love Story

Readers of Bailey's previous works will be familiar with Chloe from The Au Pair Affair, where we were first introduced to her quirky charm. However, it was only a mere teaser of what was to come. The intricacies of her relationship with Sig, which initially felt so enigmatic, unfurl beautifully in Dream Girl Drama. The thrill of discovering their complicated love story was like unwrapping a carefully wrapped gift, and oh, what a treasure it turned out to be!

A Tale of Forbidden Love

The forbidden love trope has always had a special place in my reader's heart, and Bailey executed it with finesse. The plot delivers love at first sight and a tantalizing possible step-sibling dynamic that had me turning the "pages" at a breakneck speed. The stakes are high, and you can practically feel the chemistry sizzle between Chloe and Sig. It was impossible to put the book down!

A Small Wish for More

If I had to mention one tiny complaint, it would be the epilogue. While I appreciate a good "happily ever after," the glimpse into Chloe and Sig's life five years later felt just a tad too short for my longing heart. I mean, who wouldn’t want more of that naked harp-playing goodness? Tessa, if you’re listening, I was ready for a full symphony!

And oh, Sig! My admiration for him only grew as he maintained a relationship with Harvey—a character as charmingly untrustworthy as a "lying sack of potatoes." I can’t help but root for the fascinating dynamics Bailey creates within her stories.

Excitement for What's Next

But wait! There’s more! I hear whispers of another book on the horizon: Pitcher Perfect. I can almost guarantee that we’ll see some crossover with the love story of Corrigan (aka O Donor) and Skylar—sign me up for that swoon-fest!

Conclusion

In conclusion, I devoured this ebook in just two sittings (yes, it was that good!) and will be recommending it to absolutely everyone I know. Tessa Bailey's Dream Girl Drama is top-notch in every sense—writing, plot, and execution. If you crave an emotional rollercoaster wrapped in a deliciously forbidden love story, look no further. Grab this book, and prepare for a wild ride!

Happy reading! 📚✨

⭐️⭐️⭐️💫

Book Review: The Ex by Freida McFadden

⭐️⭐️⭐️💫 (3.5/5 stars)

Freida McFadden has once again delivered a gripping tale that keeps readers on the edge of their seats with The Ex. If you love psychological thrillers where nothing is as it seems, this book will surely captivate you!

At the heart of the story is Cassie, a woman who believes she has finally found her perfect match in Joel. He’s everything she’s ever wanted—sweet, handsome, romantic, and most importantly, head over heels for her. Cassie envisions a bright future filled with love, children, and a blissful life together. However, lurking in the shadows is Francesca, Joel’s stunning ex-girlfriend. Despite her charm and culinary prowess, Cassie thinks she’s safely out of the picture. Little does she know, that’s where the twists begin.

McFadden is a master at weaving layers of suspense, and The Ex is no exception. Just when you think you’ve got the plot figured out, she throws in a twist that leaves you reeling—her trademark style! The pacing is relentless, making it hard to put the book down, as you race to uncover the truth behind Cassie’s seemingly perfect romance.

However, while I thoroughly enjoyed the unpredictability and fast-paced thrill of the narrative, I did find a few loose ends that detracted from the overall experience. Certain plot points could have benefitted from a bit more closure, leaving readers with lingering questions that detract from the otherwise tightly woven storyline.

Overall, The Ex stands as one of Freida McFadden's stronger works. With its thrilling twists and relatable characters, it’s bound to keep readers turning pages late into the night. If you're searching for a rollercoaster of emotions and an unpredictable journey in the world of romance and deception, give this book a read—but brace yourself for the unexpected!

⭐️⭐️-Can we stop now?

As an avid fan of Freida McFadden’s previous works, especially the first two books in The Housemaid series, I was genuinely looking forward to diving into The Housemaid’s Wedding. However, I regret to say that my enthusiasm dwindled rapidly, leaving me with a sense of confusion and disappointment.

Why are we still talking about Millie?

Let’s cut to the chase: what’s the point of still focusing on Millie? By the time I reached this novella, I expected a captivating evolution of her character and story. Unfortunately, this installment felt more like an afterthought. I found myself asking, “Why Freida?” repeatedly throughout the reading experience.

Nothing Happened… Seriously!

I can’t emphasize enough how stagnant the plot feels. If you’re looking for suspense or twists that will keep you on the edge of your seat, you’ll be left wanting. From start to finish, it feels like absolutely nothing happens. The narrative ambles along without purpose, leaving the reader in a state of bewilderment.

The Prologue That Led Nowhere

The prologue piqued my interest, hinting at something significant to come, but that anticipation quickly turned to frustration. What was the point of that tantalizing opening if it never came to fruition? It felt like an empty promise, setting up expectations that were never met.

Thank Goodness It’s A Novella

I can’t help but feel relieved that this was a novella. had it been a full-length novel, I would have likely considered DNFing it. The brevity of the story was a saving grace, allowing me to finish it without investing too much time and energy into a narrative that ultimately let me down.

Final Thoughts

While I appreciate Freida's efforts to return to a beloved character, The Housemaid’s Wedding regrettably falls flat in the grand scheme of the series. If you’re a die-hard fan who must read everything related to the Housemaid saga, you might find a modicum of satisfaction, but for many, this book will likely feel like a missed opportunity.

Overall, it’s a 2-star read for me.

A Delightful Romance: The Nanny by Lana Ferguson

If you're a fan of steamy romance with a sprinkle of humor and a dash of sweetness, then let me introduce you to The Nanny by Lana Ferguson! This book was a delightful escapade that I devoured with zero regrets! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Predictability? Sure. Enjoyment? Absolutely!

Let's get this out of the way—was this stand-alone predictable? Yes, yes it was. But honestly, sometimes you want what you want, and having a familiar trope can feel like cozying up in your favorite blanket. The classic single dad + nanny scenario has been done countless times, yet there’s something about this pairing that still hooked me from the very start. I just can’t resist it!

Spicy and Sweet

Our protagonist, Cassie Evans, finds herself in a bit of a pickle after losing her job and facing eviction. With options running low, she stumbles upon the perfect solution—a live-in nanny position—with a twist! Enter Aiden Reid, the charming executive chef and total DILF. Their immediate chemistry is palpable, and the blend of sweet moments with some seriously spicy encounters makes for an entertaining read.

The plot thickens when Cassie discovers that Aiden may already be familiar with her—through her OnlyFans account, no less! The concept of falling for someone you’ve never met in person adds an intriguing layer to their relationship and sets the stage for some awkward yet hilarious moments throughout.

The Heart of the Story

What I truly appreciated about Ferguson’s writing is her ability to balance the spice with heartfelt moments. Aiden’s daughter, Sophie, brings an adorable lightness to the story, and her interactions with Cassie foster a genuine warmth that makes you root for their unconventional family. As tension mounts (and the heat in the kitchen rises!), Cassie grapples with the weight of her secret and the fear of losing the happiness she’s discovered with Aiden.

Final Thoughts

Overall, The Nanny is an engaging read that left me with a smile on my face. While it may not break any new ground in the romance genre, the characters are relatable, the humor is delightfully light, and the spice is an added bonus—what more could you ask for?

If you’re looking for a little escapism and a story that's light-hearted yet full of emotion, I definitely recommend giving this one a shot. I'll happily be putting Lana Ferguson on my radar for future reads.

Have you read The Nanny? What do you think about the single dad/nanny trope? Let’s discuss! 📖💖

How to End a Love Story: A Heartfelt Debut by Yulin Kuang

I recently dived into How to End a Love Story by Yulin Kuang, and let me tell you, it was an emotional rollercoaster that I thoroughly enjoyed!⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

At its core, the novel is about two writers—Helen Zhang and Grant Shepard—who share a tangled past and find themselves working together on a TV adaptation of Helen's bestselling young adult novels. Their history is thick with the weight of a tragic accident, and Kuang masterfully explores how their past influences their present and shapes the narratives they are trying to write—both in their careers and, eventually, in their love lives.

What I Loved

Writing Style: Kuang’s writing is a breath of fresh air! The way she intertwines humor with poignant moments made it impossible to put down. I was immediately drawn into the world she created and felt every pang of emotion Helen and Grant experienced. There’s a certain charm in her prose that makes you feel like you’ve known these characters for years.

Plot Development: The enemies-to-lovers trope? Yes, please! There’s something so intoxicating about their messy, complicated relationship that kept me turning the pages. The tension was palpable, and each revelation about their past left me wanting to know what would happen next.

A Couple of Concerns

Now, while I really enjoyed the majority of the book, I have to admit I felt that it could have wrapped up a bit sooner. There were several moments where the plot branched out, and I found myself wishing it would return to the central conflict a little faster. Don’t get me wrong—I completely understand the need for character growth and development, but at times it felt like we were meandering a bit.

In Summation

Even with the pacing issue, I found myself finishing the book fairly quickly because it was just that good! It's heartfelt and emotional—definitely a book that sticks with you long after you turn the last page. I can already see myself getting a book hangover from Kuang's writing! I'm excited to see what she writes next, and I will definitely be keeping an eye out for her forthcoming titles.

Oh, and side note: I usually don't resonate with books picked by Reese Witherspoon's book club. It feels like a monetary scheme sometimes (sorry, Reese, love you!) But this book? I wholeheartedly recommend it to my followers. If you're looking for a story that combines romance, complicated history, and powerful writing, How to End a Love Story should be at the top of your reading list.

If you’ve read it too, I’d love to hear your thoughts! Did you feel the same whirlwind of emotions, or did you have a different experience? Let’s chat! 📚💖

Disappointment in Brain Damage by Frieda McFadden

I recently picked up Brain Damage by Frieda McFadden, and, as a long-time fan of her work, I had high hopes. Unfortunately, I found myself feeling quite disappointed with the overall experience. Here’s a deeper dive into what I liked, what fell flat for me, and how this book compares to my expectations.

The Premise: A Captivating Start

The book begins with an enticing premise—Dr. Charly McKenna is a successful dermatologist with a beautiful life: a thriving career, a stunning apartment overlooking Central Park, and a handsome lawyer husband. Everything seems perfect until a shocking incident changes everything. After a bullet shatters her world (and her skull), Charly is left to piece together the events of that fateful night while grappling with the demands of recovery. It’s a riveting setup that instantly drew me in.

What I Appreciated: Medical Realism

One aspect I genuinely appreciated was McFadden’s use of medical jargon and detail. It added a layer of realism to the story that made certain moments compelling. The narrative feels grounded in reality, and this medical insight creates tension that's hard to ignore. There are times when the technical details truly enhance the atmosphere, pulling the reader deeper into Charly’s struggle.

Where It Falls Short: The Protagonist

However, the main issue for me was Dr. Charly McKenna herself. For someone depicted as a successful doctor, Charly sometimes behaves in remarkably naive ways, lacking common sense that one would expect from a professional in her position. This character flaw was difficult for me to overlook and made it hard to sympathize with her journey. Honestly, I found it challenging to root for a character I didn’t admire or connect with from day one.

Predictable but Addictive? Not This Time

Frieda McFadden’s novels usually possess an addictive quality that keeps me turning the pages, even when the plot tends to lean toward the predictable. In Brain Damage, however, that addiction just wasn’t there for me. I found the plot underwhelming, lacking the surprise twists I have come to love in her previous works. It feels like a swing and a miss when high expectations meet an unmistakable sense of narrative fatigue.

Final Thoughts: A Missed Opportunity

In conclusion, Brain Damage had all the ingredients for an engaging thriller, but it ultimately fell short of my expectations. Perhaps I’m just in a reading slump after finishing something as beloved as Harry Potter, or maybe this isn’t McFadden’s finest work. Whatever the case, I'm left feeling that there was so much potential that simply went unrealized.

As a devoted fan of McFadden, I remain hopeful that her next novel will capture the magic that drew me to her writing in the first place. For now, I’ll keep this one in mind as a reminder that not every book strikes a perfect chord. Have you read Brain Damage? What were your thoughts?

A Bittersweet Farewell: A Review of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows 😭🪄

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Where do I even begin? I just finished Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, and let me tell you, it was nothing short of magnificent. This book took me on an emotional rollercoaster that left me with tears streaming down my face—and I don’t mean a few sniffles. No, this was an ugly cry of epic proportions.

As someone who has managed to avoid the movies until now, I dove into this book blind. I had no idea who would meet their end, and let me just say, each twist felt like a punch to the gut. Every time a character was killed off, I genuinely felt the urge to throw up. The weight of those losses weighed heavily on my heart, making this reading experience both beautiful and heartbreaking.

As I pen this review, my heart aches—not just because the journey concludes, but because I will never again immerse myself in the world of Hogwarts. The finality of it all is such a bittersweet pill to swallow. Yes, there are moments where the plot felt drawn out, but I recognize and appreciate the author’s vision to bring every subplot and character arc to a satisfying conclusion. She executed this intention wonderfully, tying everything together with a finesse that deserves applause.

Harry Potter is the ultimate hero. His heart and unwavering love for his friends shine brighter than Ron’s Deluminator! As readers, we are taken through a series of gut-wrenching moments, mourning the losses alongside him. Yet, as painful as it is, I promise that the ending will bring warmth back to your soul, illuminating the shadows cast by grief.

I won’t summarize the story for you; instead, I want to leave it a mystery—a parting gift from Hogwarts. I urge you to experience it for yourself without any spoilers.

In summary, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows is a spectacular conclusion to an incredible journey, and I cannot wait to dive into the films next. I’m ready to get hurt again, and I know that each movie will resurrect these same emotions. Thank you, J.K. Rowling, for this unforgettable series that has touched my heart.

Now, it’s time to watch the magic unfold on screen! ✨📚❤️

Love, Loss, and Loyalty: The Pinnacle of Harry's Story. 🪄

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐/5

“I am not worried, Harry,” said Dumbledore, his voice a little stronger despite the freezing water. “I am with you.”

In Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, we delve deeper into the dark history of Lord Voldemort as Harry prepares for the final confrontation with his nemesis, all under the wise guidance of Headmaster Dumbledore. As Voldemort regains his strength and plots to eliminate Harry, our protagonist embarks on a daunting quest to seek out and destroy the fragments of Voldemort’s soul—his Horcruxes. This challenge will prove to be pivotal in Harry's journey toward his ultimate destiny.

Honestly, my emotions are all over the place. I’ve just recovered from sobbing over the last few chapters, all while grappling with my frustration towards J.K. Rowling for tearing my heart out. No spoilers here, but all I can think about are the potential twists the story could have taken to undo the heartbreak. The weight of the ending has me itching to dive into Deathly Hallows, which I’ve already started, and—so far—nothing seems to have changed. 😭

This installment beautifully explores the bond between Harry and Dumbledore, showing how it has blossomed into what feels like a father-son relationship. Their exchanges are heartwarming, filled with love and respect, regardless of the challenges they encounter. Even though they may disagree on Snape, it's comforting to know that Harry, who has lost so much, still has someone looking out for him.

From the very first page of Half-Blood Prince, the stakes are raised with a jaw-dropping reveal: two sisters, one being Mrs. Malfoy, are heading towards the home of Severus Snape—one of Voldemort’s most loyal followers. Just when it seems Rowling might be steering him towards redemption, she flips the narrative on its head. Did anyone else find themselves torn about trusting him? The uncertainty lingers throughout the story, keeping readers on their toes.

One of my favorite moments in the book occurs toward the end of the school year. Harry shares his plans for the upcoming year, and Ron and Hermione respond with, “We’re with you, no matter what.” Just thinking about it brings tears to my eyes! Their friendship, forged through countless trials, is a remarkable testament to loyalty and support, especially when faced with uncertainty and danger. It underscores the profound bond that has developed over their years together—it’s not merely about the adventures; it’s about the deep-rooted trust and love they’ve built along the way.

As I prepare to dive back into Deathly Hallows, I brace myself for heartbreak once more. I know I’m about to embark on an emotional rollercoaster filled with adventure, sacrifice, and the ultimate battle between good and evil. With every page I turn, I can already feel the weight of the forthcoming events pressing down on me. My heart races at the thought of my favorite characters facing unimaginable challenges and gut-wrenching losses.

The journey that unfolds as Harry, Hermione, and Ron search for the Horcruxes isn’t just a quest for survival; it’s a profound exploration of friendship, loyalty, and the courage required to stand against darkness. I anticipate the moments that will make me laugh, cry, and reflect on the themes of love and loss that resonate so deeply within us.

So here I go, ready to relive the magic and the pain, eager to cheer for triumphs and mourn the losses. This story has captivated my heart and mind, and despite knowing what’s ahead, I can’t help but feel thrilled to experience it all over again.

Let the journey begin… or perhaps, come to an end?! 😭🪄🪄

A Heart-Wrenching Journey: A Review of Colleen Hoover’s Slammed Series

Okay, fellow book lovers, let’s dive into one of the most emotional roller-coaster I’ve encountered: Colleen Hoover’s Slammed Series. This trilogy follows the intense love story of Layken and Will, and trust me, it’s not for the faint of heart. So grab your tissues and buckle up because we’re about to explore Slammed, Point of Retreat, and that book we don’t really talk about, This Girl.

Slammed

Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐½ (4.5/5)

Wow! If I could give Slammed six stars, I absolutely would! This breathtaking novel by Colleen Hoover is nothing short of a masterpiece and deserves a spot on everyone's reading list.

The story kicks off with eighteen-year-old Layken, who faces an unimaginable loss when her father passes away, forcing her to relocate across the country. Suddenly, she finds herself uprooted from everything familiar, and her outlook on life is undeniably bleak. Just when you think things couldn’t get any more challenging, enter Will Cooper: the captivating twenty-one-year-old neighbor with a passion for slam poetry. Their initial encounter is anything but ordinary, igniting feelings within Layken that she never knew she could experience.

But as is often the case in Layken’s life, just when things start to look up, an unexpected revelation throws their budding romance into disarray. Sparks fly as Layken and Will find themselves caught in a whirlwind of emotions, grappling with a dilemma that puts their hearts at odds with their moral compasses. And just when you think the drama is about to settle down, Layken’s mother drops a bombshell that completely shifts the dynamics of her world. The intensity of her revelations makes her previous struggles seem almost trivial in comparison.

What I loved most about this book is that both Layken and Will are refreshingly real and relatable characters. They are not the typical frustrating hero and heroine often found in romance novels; they think before they act and make decisions that reflect their maturity. Hoover’s writing style is deceptively simple yet profoundly impactful—it draws you right into the emotional core of the story and makes you feel every moment with the characters.

One of the most delightful surprises for me was how much I connected with the slam poetry woven throughout the narrative. I had never been able to relate to poetry before, but here, it serves as a powerful vehicle for the characters to express their innermost thoughts and emotions. Each slam performance is like a glimpse into their hearts, resonating on a level I didn’t expect. I found myself completely captivated by the emotional weight of the poetry, further enhancing my love for this book.

The chemistry between Layken and Will is electric. Just thinking about their moments together gives me butterflies! Their love story is a rollercoaster of feelings, and I couldn’t put the book down. In fact, I was so engrossed that I found myself reading late into the night, battling tears as the emotional depth of this story took its toll on me. The last ten percent of the book had me in a constant state of tearfulness—not to mention those heart-wrenching moments that will linger in my mind long after finishing.

Slammed is a powerful exploration of love, loss, life, and death (rest assured, not in the way you might expect). By the end, I was left with a sense of hope intermingled with my tears—an affirmation that even in the face of adversity, love will find a way.

In conclusion, if you're looking for a book that will touch your heart, make you feel deeply, and keep you turning the pages, look no further than Slammed. Colleen Hoover has crafted a story that is not only engaging but also profoundly moving. Trust me, this is one book you do not want to miss!

Point of Retreat

Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐ (4/5)

After I finished Slammed, I felt a strong need to jump right into Point of Retreat. Colleen Hoover skillfully continues Lake and Will's journey, taking us through a year filled with personal growth and tough challenges.

The story opens with a heavy sense of loss. Lake’s mother, Julia, has died from cancer, a reality that hits hard, even though we expected it from the last book. Julia was such a lively character in Slammed, and her absence creates a deep void throughout the story. The emotional impact of her loss is beautifully portrayed, making Lake’s memories of her mother especially moving. I found myself tearing up with every mention of Julia, particularly those sweet reminders of her love, like the famous purple hair clip. Julia’s influence on Lake’s life—through heartfelt notes with advice—adds a touching element to the story.

Lake and Will remain just as lovable as before, but they have both grown a lot over the year. Their relationship flourishes as they tackle university life together, showing a bond that has deepened even more. Lake is now caring for her younger brother with Will’s strong support, highlighting their commitment to each other and their family. I truly enjoyed seeing how their characters evolved; they are not just getting by—they are thriving, even with new challenges ahead.

One of the enjoyable parts of Point of Retreat is the ongoing friendship between Will and Gavin, who is now dating Eddie. The interactions among the characters enhance the story and provide those sweet moments of friendship that I really love. It’s heartwarming to see best friends supporting each other while dealing with the ups and downs of love and friendship.

This book definitely has its intense moments. There are two key events that really took me by surprise. I won’t give away any details, but I found myself eagerly flipping through the pages, my nails nearly bitten down to nothing! I was in a rush to see what would happen next. These unexpected twists add the drama and tension that are signature elements of Hoover’s writing.

In summary, Point of Retreat is an engaging and emotional story that will draw you back into Will and Lake’s journey. The memories of Julia beautifully reflect love that has been lost, while also emphasizing the value of family and friendship. If you enjoyed Slammed, you’ll likely find that Point of Retreat has the same charm, filled with just the right mix of heartache and hope. I finished it quickly.

“If I were a carpenter, I would build you a window to my soul. But I would leave that window shut and locked, so that every time you tried to look through it all you would see is your own reflection. You would see that my soul is a reflection of you.”

This Girl

Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐ (4/5)

And then we have This Girl. To be honest, think of this one as a retelling of Slammed from Will’s point of view. While it’s insightful to delve into his psyche, it doesn’t necessarily push the story forward. Instead, it revisits past events with some added context, which can be nice but feels a bit redundant if you’ve just read Slammed.

Final Thoughts

Overall, the Slammed Series takes you on a beautifully tragic journey that’s filled with love, loss, and personal growth. Each book builds on the last, showcasing the characters' complexities and the raw emotion connected to their experiences.

Just a heads up: these books come loaded with some heavy topics, so make sure you’re in the right headspace before diving in. I’m officially giving this entire series a 4.5-star rating—it's that powerful!

Colleen Hoover has truly left a mark on the literary world with this trilogy, and as Layken and Will's journey concludes, you might, like me, feel the urge to retreat back to the comforting world of Hogwarts to recover. Happy reading!

Dementors, Deception, and the Fight Back: Order of the Phoenix Unleashed!

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐/5 STARS
Can we take a moment to appreciate the sheer brilliance that is Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix? Honestly, every time I pick up a new book in the series, I find myself declaring it the best yet, but this installment truly takes the cake! J.K. Rowling, you magnificent genius!

As Harry enters his fifth year at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, the stakes are higher than ever. Unlike typical schoolboys, Harry's summers are nothing short of traumatic. This time around, the Dursleys elevate their usual brand of neglect and cruelty, causing Harry to feel isolated – even from his loyal friends Ron and Hermione. The turning point? A dramatic encounter with Dementors that sets the tone for a year full of trials and tribulations.

Rowling’s skill in weaving emotion into her story continues to astound me. Order of the Phoenix dives deeper into the multifaceted struggles of friendship, betrayal, and the weight of expectation. As Harry faces not only the torment of his home life but also the frustrations of growing up, we witness his internal battles intensify. The stakes are elevated as Voldemort is not just a distant threat; he is actively strengthening his army of Death Eaters, cementing his malevolence in the wizarding world. The dark undertones of this narrative create a palpable sense of urgency, revealing that Harry's fight is against an increasingly powerful and sinister force that seeks to dominate everything he holds dear.

The Ministry of Magic, behaving like the ultimate antagonist, adds a layer of complexity to the story. It’s not just about fighting dark forces; it’s also about navigating the bureaucracy that seems determined to hinder Harry at every turn. The sense of injustice surrounding this situation kept me on the edge of my seat, rooting for Harry to reclaim his voice and agency.

Ah, yes, let’s talk about the real villain of this book – Professor Dolores Umbridge. I mean, can we agree she's a total toad of a woman? Every time I read her scenes, my blood boiled! Her sadistic punishments inflicted on Harry and his friends had me grinding my teeth in frustration. I had to take several breather breaks; the emotional toll of her character is unforgiving. And those lines Harry was forced to write? Heart-wrenching! This hatred for Umbridge added layers of suspense and intrigue, making the book impossible to put down.

But let’s not forget the comic relief that the Weasley twins provide! Fred and George, with their clever antics, stole my heart yet again. Their ability to orchestrate chaos amidst Umbridge’s tyranny keeps the story balanced with laughter. You can’t help but root for these troublemakers!

And then there’s Padfoot—oh, how I paused for a moment of silence for Sirius Black. His character brings so much heart and complexity, and the sorrow surrounding his role in this book is palpable. Rowling has a talent for creating sorrowful moments that stick with you long after reading. No spoilers here, but let's just say the emotional weight of his storyline devastated me.

A nod to the centaurs for their intriguing and morally complex presence in this book! If you know, you know! And was it just me, or did anyone else feel a twinge of sympathy for Snivellus Snape? His character depth continues to intrigue me, and there’s so much more to explore.

In conclusion, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix is not just a compelling addition to the series; it’s a full-blown emotional rollercoaster that dives into the struggles of adolescence, the importance of true friendship, and the fight against tyranny. It sets the stage for what’s to come and leaves you craving more.

So, can we get a round of applause for Rowling and her brilliance? Half-Blood Prince, here I come! Muggles, let’s ready ourselves for the next adventure! 📚✨

Let the Triwizard Tournament Commence! 🪄🪄

Okay, fellow Potter lovers, I've got to share my excitement about Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire because this one has officially become my favorite in the series so far! 🎉 It’s like J.K. Rowling took everything we loved about the first books and leveled it up, maturing right alongside Harry, and I am here for it!

A Summer to Remember

Let’s kick things off with Harry’s summer. Honestly, who can relate to the dread of spending time with the Dursleys? You can practically feel the anticipation building as we wait for the Weasleys to swoop in like superheroes. And when they finally do rescue him? Let’s just say I was laughing out loud! That moment was pure gold.

The Excitement of Competition

Now, what really hooks me in this book is the intense competition vibe! The Triwizard Tournament is such a thrilling concept, right? It reminds me of some of my other favorite series—with strong characters battling it out in high-stakes games. I mean, who doesn't love the tension of trying to figure out who is trustworthy and who’s just waiting to stab you in the back?

A Deep Dive into the Tournament

As Hogwarts gears up for the Triwizard Tournament, we’re diving deep into its history—talk about a blast from the past! It’s been around for hundreds of years, but let’s be real, its resurrection comes with some serious baggage. The fact that only students who are 17 or older can compete adds an extra layer of suspense, especially since our boy Harry is just 13.

Then, when those names are picked from the Goblet of Fire and Harry’s name gets thrown into the mix? Mind blown! How did that happen? And let’s not forget about Wormtail lurking in the background. It’s one mystery after another, and you’re left on the edge of your seat, wanting to know how it all unfolds.

Growth and Deeper Themes

What I truly love is seeing Harry evolve in this book. He’s no longer that innocent kid we met in Sorcerer’s Stone. Here, he’s on a journey filled with danger, friendships, and tough decisions. The themes of loyalty and trust pop out as Harry faces challenges that really test his character.

Wrapping It Up

In a nutshell, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire offers a thrilling ride packed with excitement and emotional depth. J.K. Rowling really nails it with this one, blending intense scenes with a fantastic storyline.

I can’t wait to jump into Order of the Phoenix next! So, if you haven't had a chance to read this book yet, grab that wand and dive in—you won’t regret it!

A Love Story with REAL Struggles. 😭😭

Hey everyone! I just finished reading All Your Perfects by Colleen Hoover, and wow, it’s one of those books that hits you right in the feels. Seriously, if you’re looking for a read that you can get lost in for a day, this is it!

This book kicks off with Quinn finding out her fiancé, Ethan, has been cheating on her, thanks to Graham, who’s dealing with his own heartbreak. Right from the start, I was hooked. It’s a whirlwind romance that feels so realistic. The story flips between “Then”—when they first meet—and “Now”—where we see how their relationship has grown (and struggled) over the years.

Storms of Life

One of the coolest things in this book is the metaphor of “category storms” to describe the challenges couples face. It really paints a picture of how tough marriage can be sometimes, especially when dealing with issues like infertility. I felt it deep down because Hoover is so open about how these struggles affect self-esteem and relationships.

Emotions Running High

I finished this book in a single day because I just couldn’t put it down. It’s like therapy on paper! It’s moving, sometimes heart-wrenching, and definitely made me tear up a few times. The way Hoover writes about love and loss is so genuine—it made me reflect on my own life.

Favorite Quotes

There are so many powerful moments in the book, but some of my absolute favorite quotes include:

  • “Our marriage hasn’t been perfect. No marriage is perfect. There were times when she gave up on us. There were even more times when I gave up on us. The secret to our longevity is that we never gave up at the same time.”
  • “I probably didn’t notice because sadness is like a spiderweb. You don't see it until you’re caught up in it, and then you have to claw at yourself to try to break free.”
  • “Gratitude is born in the struggle. And we have definitely struggled.”

These quotes stayed with me after finishing the book—they’re just so relatable and real.

A Perfect Wrap-Up

Oh, and a shoutout to the little connections to Hoover’s past characters from Hopeless and Finding Hope! It was such a nice touch that left me smiling while wiping away my tears. It made the ending feel complete and satisfying.

The Bottom Line

In short, All Your Perfects is a must-read! It’s about love, resilience, and the ups and downs of being in a relationship. Colleen Hoover has absolutely nailed it with this story, and I think everyone should read it. Just make sure you have some tissues nearby—you’ll definitely need them!

So, grab a cozy spot, dive into this book, and allow yourself to be swept away by Quinn and Graham’s journey. You won’t regret it!

A Masterpiece of Emotion and Growth! 😭🪄😍

J.K. Rowling has done it again! The third installment in the Harry Potter series, Prisoner of Azkaban, is another amazing plot executed to perfection. This book took me on an emotional rollercoaster, bringing me to tears on several occasions. Hagrid’s unwavering love for magical creatures was put to the test, and it hit me right in the feels. Additionally, witnessing Harry lose his chance at finding a second family was heart-wrenching. There are so many instances that I'll leave you to discover, but trust me, they will resonate deeply.

Can we talk about Hagrid? This big teddy bear has become one of my favorite characters, and my "protect Hagrid at all costs" mindset is definitely carrying over to the next book!

As Harry completes his third year at Hogwarts, readers can sense a change in the writing—the characters, especially Harry and his friends, are not just maturing in their magical abilities, but also in their character growth.

Set against the enchanting backdrop of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, this book is filled with mystery, betrayal, and enduring friendships. The alarming news of Sirius Black’s escape and its implications for Harry adds tension and intrigue throughout the story. As Harry navigates family truths, fears, and dark secrets, he does so with the unwavering support of Ron and Hermione.

Rowling beautifully explores themes of identity, the quest for truth, and the struggle against inner and outer darkness. The expansion of the wizarding world with fascinating creatures like the Hippogriff, the charming streets of Hogsmeade, and the mysterious Marauder's Map adds depth and excitement that makes this adventure unforgettable.

If you're looking for a story that seamlessly blends mystery, fantasy, and the warmth of friendship, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban is a captivating experience you won't want to overlook. This chapter shines a light on bravery, loyalty, and the eternal power of truth. Get ready to be enchanted!

A Spellbinding Return to Hogwarts!

The Chamber of Secrets by J.K. Rowling is nothing short of magical! As a newly minted fan of the Harry Potter series, I can already tell I’m destined to be an obsessed Muggle. With every page, Rowling’s enchanting world pulls me further in, and I’m already eyeing those beautiful special editions to add to my collection—take my money!

The story begins with Harry enduring another dismal summer with the Dursleys, filled with neglect and disdain. But the real magic begins when Ron Weasley arrives in a flying car to whisk Harry away to the warmth and comfort of his family home. What a brilliant opening! The vivid imagery and lively descriptions transport you straight into the heart of the wizarding world, making it feel like home.

This installment introduces us to delightful new characters, including my personal favorite, Dobby. His determination to protect Harry, despite being a house-elf, adds layers of complexity and charm to the narrative. Dobby’s plight is heartbreaking, and I found myself deeply invested in his character.

Harry's encounter with Parseltongue—a language I certainly wouldn't want to learn, especially with my fear of snakes—adds an exciting twist to the plot. The revelation of Harry’s ability to speak to snakes is intriguing and adds tension as the story unfolds.

Rowling masterfully weaves together suspense and mystery as the threat of the Chamber of Secrets looms over Hogwarts. The themes of death, fame, friendship, and the weight of choices resonate beautifully, making this not just a children’s book, but a story for all ages. With each chapter, you can feel the groundwork being laid for future adventures, particularly the ominous mention of Azkaban—what a tantalizing setup for what's to come!

In summary, Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets captivates with its rich storytelling, unforgettable characters, and an enchanting world that leaves you yearning for more. I cannot recommend this book highly enough! Whether you're a longtime fan or new to the series, this book is an absolute must-read. I’m eagerly looking forward to diving into the next installment, and I already know it will be as magical as this one! 🌟✨

Book Review: The Widow's Husband's Secret Life by Freida McFadden ⭐⭐⭐⭐½

What a title! It’s clear that The Widow's Husband's Secret Life was designed to elicit a chuckle from readers, and it certainly delivers. Freida McFadden strikes again with her latest page-turner, expertly weaving together elements of mystery and comedy in a delightful tapestry that keeps us hooked from start to finish.

A Comedic Reflection on Loss

The narrative kicks off with a touching, yet slightly comical, reflection on the protagonist's late husband, Grant. From the get-go, we’re treated to an extravagant array of finger foods that outshine the solemnity of his funeral. As the widow grapples with Grant’s demise, she’s also haunted by the ghost of his secrets, which seem to have a life of their own. This uniquely humorous take on grief sets the tone for the rest of the story.

McFadden’s Unique Blend of Suspense and Humor

McFadden blends her signature suspense with a generous splash of humor, creating a cocktail that keeps readers on their toes. The tension is punctuated by bursts of genuine laughter, presenting a delightful equilibrium that showcases the lighter side of dark themes. It's a well-crafted balance that proves a little chuckle can go a long way in lightening the mood.

A Treasure Trove for McFadden Fans

For seasoned McFadden aficionados, this novella feels like an Easter egg hunt in the mansion of a mad genius. With nods to her previous tales—think enigmatic snowflake necklaces and attic rooms with a mind of their own—there's an undeniable wink and nod that binds old fans together in a secret society of literary inside jokes.

The protagonist’s love for Freida McFadden's thrillers injects a deliciously meta twist. Watching characters banter about McFadden’s novels while remaining oblivious to her celebrity status is a witty homage that reflects the author's quirky charm and tickles the funny bone of her devoted readers.

Wit and Masterful Plot Twists

McFadden's genial wit shines through in playful moments where characters cheekily reference well-worn thriller clichés. The recurring gag about "releasing the breath I didn't realize I was holding" offers a delightful jab at both the genre and McFadden herself, creating an instant camaraderie with her audience. And let’s not forget that ingenious plot twist in the finale—utterly masterful!

Final Thoughts

In conclusion, The Widow's Husband's Secret Life is a gem for those already acquainted with McFadden's unique flair. Tailored for her loyal fans, some humor and subtleties might fly over the heads of newcomers. However, if your sense of humor leans toward the hilariously absurd, you’re in for a treat.

This novella is an uproarious escapade that cements Freida McFadden's status as royalty in the realm of mystery and comedy. It’s a top pick for anyone looking to indulge in a delightful concoction of suspense and side-splitting humor. Don't miss out on this gem!

Book Review: The Last Housewife by Ashley Winstead ⭐⭐⭐⭐/5 STARS

Don't sleep on The Last Housewife—this book has flown under the radar! 💜💜 Trust me when I say, click that "want to read" button, y’all, because I loved this one. But pay attention; there’s a lot going on!

One of the elements I adore is when the plot revolves around a crime podcast, and I can say I've never been disappointed when this is the book's premise. And let’s not forget the cult twist—I'm even more obsessed now! A good cult plot always grabs my interest.

A Gripping Narrative

The story follows Shay Evans, who, after escaping the dangerous influence of a charismatic man in college, has spent the last eight years building a quiet life in a small Texas suburb. However, everything changes when she receives the shocking news of her friend Laurel's death. This tragic event sends Shay spiraling back into the web of her past, forcing her to confront the very demons she thought she had left behind.

Winstead does an excellent job of capturing Shay's emotional turmoil as she grapples with the notion that the predatory forces she once escaped may still be lurking in the shadows of her life. The author’s writing shines in depicting Shay’s internal struggle, showcasing her drive for justice intertwined with a seductive pull toward the dark allure of her past.

Complex Characters and Themes

Shay's duality is illustrated with finesse, reflecting a profound understanding of the complexities of trauma and the societal pressures that perpetuate cycles of violence and complicity. As Shay partners with a true-crime podcast host to uncover the truth about her friend's death, readers are taken on a suspenseful journey that raises critical questions about accountability and the elusive nature of justice, particularly in a world designed by men for men.

The true brilliance of The Last Housewife lies in its commentary on the societal structures that allow dangerous ideologies to thrive. Winstead expertly weaves themes of privilege, complicity, and the seductive nature of power into the plot, prompting readers to reflect on how these dynamics play out in their own lives. The rich characterization of Shay and her interactions within a world steeped in wealth and brutality make for a thought-provoking read that lingers long after the final page.

Final Thoughts

While the pacing occasionally lags—especially in the middle sections—Winstead's lyrical prose and evocative imagery keep you engaged. The tension builds skillfully toward the climax, ensuring that the conclusion is both satisfying and unsettling, leaving readers pondering the complexities of justice and personal accountability.

The Last Housewife is a gripping exploration of trauma, resilience, and the dark underbelly of obsession, all set against the backdrop of a seemingly idyllic suburban life. With a compelling narrative that merges elements of psychological thriller and social commentary, Winstead invites readers to delve deep into the intricacies of female friendship and the haunting shadows of the past.

In conclusion, The Last Housewife is a captivating read that combines suspense with a powerful examination of female agency in the face of systemic oppression. With well-drawn characters and a plot that keeps you guessing, Ashley Winstead has crafted a thought-provoking narrative that resonates deeply. For those seeking a thrilling yet reflective journey through the complexities of the human psyche and the quest for truth, this book is a must-read. I loved it! 💟💟

Book Review: Spectacular by Stephanie Garber ⭐⭐⭐⭐/5 STARS

Stephanie Garber is truly a magical author, and I have enjoyed everything she has written. However, my review may come off a bit harsh, mainly because this novella was highly anticipated, and I was so excited to dive into my special edition copy. 💜💜

As a devoted fan of Garber’s Caraval series, my anticipation for the release of Spectacular was through the roof! This delightful holiday novella promised to transport readers back to the mesmerizing world we've come to adore, but this time through the eyes of Donatella Dragna. With Garber’s trademark lyrical prose and vivid imagery intact, the reading experience remained as enchanting as ever.

A Whimsical Setting

The beauty of Garber’s writing cannot be overstated. Her ability to weave intricate details into the narrative creates a rich tapestry that immerses us in the whimsical charm of the Meridian Empire. The holiday setting, complete with falling snowflakes and festive celebrations, adds an enchanting layer to the story, evoking all the warmth and magic of the season.

However, amidst this beauty, I did sense a more pronounced predictability compared to previous installments of the series. While the Caraval books thrived on twists and turns, Spectacular seemed to tread familiar ground, lacking some of the surprise that initially captured our imaginations.

A Familiar Journey

The novella is predominantly told in the third person, focusing on Donatella’s quest for the perfect gift for Legend, a character whose charm has enchanted readers throughout the series. That said, the repetitive nature of mentioning “Donatella Dragna” had me feeling a bit fatigued, pulling me out of the immersive experience that Garber expertly crafts. While repetition can sometimes enhance a narrative, in this case, it felt somewhat excessive and detracted from the overall flow of the story.

A Worthy Addition

Despite these critiques, Spectacular is still a worthwhile addition to the Caraval universe. It’s a delightful read that captures the spirit of the holidays and offers an endearing glimpse into the lives of beloved characters. Garber’s ability to paint vivid scenes and evoke strong emotions ensures that readers will find joy in revisiting this enchanting world, even if it feels slightly less mature than its predecessors.

So, should you read Spectacular? Absolutely! Just approach it with an understanding of its tonal differences compared to the original trilogy. While I may have had my “beef” with certain aspects, I wholeheartedly acknowledge that this novella resonates with a younger adult demographic, making it accessible to a broader audience.

Final Thoughts

In conclusion, Spectacular earns a solid four-star rating. It invites us to indulge in the magic of Caraval once more while serving up an enjoyable, albeit predictable, narrative. I’m grateful for the opportunity to dive back into this fantastical world, and I wholeheartedly support Stephanie Garber in her endeavors to continue enchanting us.

So, grab your copy, settle in with a warm beverage, and prepare to be whisked away to a holiday celebration that, like the world of Caraval itself, is filled with wonder and mystery. 💜😍

Book Review: Archer's Voice by Mia Sheridan ⭐⭐⭐⭐.5/5 STARS

Okay, I need to get something off my chest right away—the way I SCREAMED and threw my dang book across the room just before the epilogue? If you know, you know! Seriously, Mia Sheridan, half a star off just for what you did to me! My heart was in my butt, y'all! No spoilers here, just a little venting.

“Sometimes an understanding silence was better than a bunch of meaningless words.”

Archer's Voice had been perched on my TBR list since I first created my Goodreads account, and I must admit, I have slept on it for far too long. For my first venture into Sheridan's writing, I was eager to dive into a narrative promising heartfelt emotion and profound connection. After finally immersing myself in this beautiful story, I can confidently say it exceeded my expectations, leaving me both moved and hungry for more of Sheridan’s wonderfully crafted tales.

A Touching Story Set in Pelion, Maine

Set in the picturesque, sleepy town of Pelion, Maine, Archer's Voice follows Bree Prescott, a woman seeking solace from the haunting ghosts of her past. Just as she arrives, hoping to find peace, her life becomes intertwined with that of Archer Hale—a reclusive man burdened by his own secret suffering. This chance encounter sets the stage for a poignant narrative of love, healing, and the struggle to break free from the shackles of trauma.

“You brought the silence, the most beautiful sound I’d ever heard.”

What struck me most about Archer's Voice was Sheridan’s exquisite writing style. The prose is raw and evocative, painting vivid images that draw you into the emotional landscape of the characters. Bree and Archer's pain reverberates throughout the story, making their journey toward healing both compelling and relatable. Sheridan expertly captures the essence of human suffering alongside the transformative power of love, illustrating how connection can be a lifeline in the darkest of times.

The Balance Between Emotion and Intimacy

However, as much as I adored the characters and the overarching narrative, I found the frequency of intimate scenes somewhat overwhelming. While I appreciate a well-written spicy moment as much as the next reader, I felt that the physicality of the relationship overshadowed some of the deeper character exploration. At times, the repetition of these scenes detracted from the potent emotional undercurrents that could have been explored further. I craved more moments of quiet intimacy and reflection, allowing readers to dive deeper into the complexities of Bree and Archer's relationship, rather than focusing solely on physical connection.

Despite this minor critique, Archer's Voice remains a powerful and engaging read. It beautifully encapsulates themes of suffering, fate, and the possibility of redemption through love. The book's emotional core is genuinely touching, and the growth of both Bree and Archer stands testament to the healing potential of compassionate connection. By the end, I found myself rooting for their happiness and yearning for more of Sheridan's captivating storytelling.

Final Thoughts

In conclusion, Archer's Voice is a heartfelt narrative that absolutely deserves its place on your reading list! If you’re looking for a book that explores the intricacies of love and healing against a backdrop of personal turmoil, look no further. I am left with an eagerness to explore more of Mia Sheridan's works, excited to uncover what other tales of love and resilience lie ahead.

So, do yourself a favor—pick up Archer's Voice and let it guide you on a journey of healing and hope.

“Maybe there was no right or wrong, no black or white, only a thousand shades of gray when it came to pain and what we each held ourselves responsible for.”

Book Review: The Lake of Lost Girls by Katherine Greene ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I recently had the immense pleasure of listening to the audiobook of The Lake of Lost Girls, and let me tell you, I finished it in record time! A huge thank you to Dreamscape Media, Katherine Greene, and NetGalley for granting me early access in exchange for my honest review.

Katherine Greene has orchestrated an addictive plot that grips you from the very first moment. The brilliance of this story lies in its ability to keep readers guessing "whodunit" until the very end—I found myself completely obsessed!

A Thrilling Narrative

The narrative artfully weaves between past and present, centering on two sisters: Lindsay, in the present, and Jess, who vanished without a trace over a decade ago. Jess’s mysterious disappearance is compounded by the fact that three other girls had also gone missing around the same time, their cases going cold due to a lack of support from local law enforcement and the school board.

In modern times, with the surge in podcast popularity, Jess's case is reopened, reigniting interest and intensifying the tension. As the podcast dives deeper into the mystery, we learn that Jess had been acting distracted and withdrawn leading up to her disappearance. Secrets start to resurface, propelling the story into a thrilling whirlwind where nobody is safe.

Depth and Execution

What impressed me most about The Lake of Lost Girls was the depth of the plot. Greene took her time to develop each thread in the narrative, resulting in a masterful execution that kept me captivated throughout. Each character felt well-rounded and essential to the unfolding mystery.

While the conclusion did feel a bit far-fetched, it didn't diminish my overall enjoyment of the story. The journey to get there was so engaging that I found myself willingly suspending disbelief as I raced toward the ending.

Final Thoughts

I wholeheartedly recommend The Lake of Lost Girls to anyone searching for their next favorite thriller in 2024! It’s an engaging, thought-provoking read that will keep you on the edge of your seat. If you’re a fan of twisting narratives and gripping mysteries, this is one book you won’t want to miss!

Happy reading! 📚✨

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐/5 STARS
As a newcomer to the Harry Potter universe, I can confidently say that Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone has already captivated my heart and mind! Initially, I was concerned that the YA theme might not resonate with me, but I quickly learned that this series transcends any age classification. The charm lies not in the characters' age or their lack of romantic entanglements, but rather in the creativity, enchantment, and whimsical atmosphere that J.K. Rowling masterfully lays before us.

From the moment we are introduced to Harry, an orphan subjected to the cruelty of his relatives, the Dursleys, I found myself rooting for him. Harry’s journey begins on his eleventh birthday, steeped in mystery and wonder, as he receives the first of many letters that change his life forever. Hagrid's entrance is nothing short of magical, and his pivotal declaration, “You’re a wizard, Harry!” ignites a thrilling adventure that I simply couldn't put down.

Rowling’s writing is as spellbinding as the story itself. The intricately designed settings, especially the majestic Hogwarts Castle surrounded by the enigmatic Forbidden Forest, provide a vivid backdrop for Harry’s unfolding tale. The gradual buildup of tension, alongside delightful experiences like flying broomsticks and participating in Quidditch, keeps the excitement alive and the pages turning.

Moreover, the underlying hints of a dark power looming in the shadows introduce an intriguing layer to Harry's journey. Could his mysterious lightning bolt scar connect him to a tumultuous past and a formidable foe? I’m eager to uncover the intertwined fates as I delve deeper into this enchanting series.

In conclusion, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone is the perfect start to a series that I know I will become absolutely obsessed with. If you’ve hesitated to dive into the magical world, let this book be your guide—embrace the whimsy, the wonder, and the unforgettable adventure that awaits!

One True Loves by Taylor Jenkins Reid         (5 Stars)

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ A MILLION STARS, EVERYONE! 😭😭 Taylor Jenkins Reid's "One True Loves" has profoundly changed my literary experience. It was both beautiful and heart-wrenching. I'll keep this review brief and to the point, as I don't want to reveal too much. With a plot like this, even sharing my favorite quotes could be a spoiler. If you haven't read it yet, allow yourself adequate time, because this one is a finish in one sitting type of read. Put it on your TBR list and make it your next read. 💜

Emma Blair’s journey is one that’s both relatable and deeply traumatic. Starting with her heartfelt marriage to high school sweetheart Jesse, their adventurous life together is lauded as the embodiment of young love—free from parental expectations and anchored only in a shared passion for life. The sudden and tragic loss of Jesse on their first wedding anniversary sends Emma spiraling. Reid captures the rawness of grief as Emma leaves her job and returns to her hometown, struggling to cope with the void his absence has left.

What I found particularly striking was how Reid illustrates Emma’s growth from a companion lost in grief to a woman re-discovering herself. Years later, Emma reconnects with her past through Sam, an old friend, leading her to believe that love can arise anew, only to be confronted with Jesse's unexpected return—a moment that is as shocking as it is transformative.

⭐Complex Characters: Reid creates characters that feel incredibly real. Emma's inner struggles are shown with care and clarity. Her relationships with Jesse and Sam are beautifully portrayed, making both Emma and the reader face the true meaning of love—whether it's for a lost partner or a new love that brings out a different part of her.

⭐Profound Themes: The story thoughtfully examines the idea of having a "one true love." Reid questions how love can change and still hold significance, making Emma's choice both heartbreaking and relatable.

⭐Emotional Depth: Reid has a unique talent for stirring emotions through her writing. The ups and downs of Emma's romantic life hit home, with moments that are sure to bring tears, highlighting the mix of happiness and sadness in relationships.

⭐Life-Affirming Message: At its heart, One True Loves emphasizes the importance of following your heart and recognizing personal growth in love. Emma's journey shows that it's possible to love more than one person and that life's unpredictability can lead to important insights about what truly matters.

My concluding thoughts: One True Loves is a touching look at love that goes beyond the usual. Taylor Jenkins Reid's talented writing and relatable characters draw you into Emma’s story. This book shows the many sides of love and the challenges that come with it. I highly recommend this remarkable work to anyone who enjoys a beautifully crafted story of love, loss, and renewal. Taylor Jenkins Reid has truly surpassed expectations with this incredible book—it's a story that resonates deeply within your heart. 💜💜

Maybe in Another Life by Taylor Jenkins Reid: A Journey Through Choices and Consequences (3.75 Stars)

Hello, fellow book lovers! 🌟

Today, I’m excited to share my thoughts on Maybe in Another Life by the incredibly talented Taylor Jenkins Reid. As a long-time fan of Taylor’s work, I’ve come to expect thought-provoking stories that stay with me long after I’ve turned the last page. While this latest offering didn’t quite reach the same emotional heights as The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo or One True Loves, it still delivers an intriguing narrative that deserves a place on your reading list.

The Premise

At the heart of Maybe in Another Life is Hannah Martin, a 29-year-old who finds herself adrift after moving back to her hometown of Los Angeles. With countless meaningless jobs and six cities under her belt, she’s still searching for her purpose. One fateful night out with her best friend, Gabby, throws Hannah into a dilemma: should she leave with her high school sweetheart, Ethan, or stick with Gabby?

This pivotal moment sets the stage for the novel’s unique structure, where readers follow parallel storylines based on the choices Hannah makes. Reid effectively explores how these divergent paths can lead to radically different lives while also showcasing that certain aspects of our lives remain steadfast, regardless of the choices we make.

What I Loved

One thing I’ve always adored about Taylor Jenkins Reid is her remarkable ability to transcend genre boundaries. She crafts meaningful stories and complex characters that resonate deeply. Maybe in Another Life is no exception; it invites readers to contemplate fate, love, and the profound impact of our decisions.

I found the dual-timeline approach truly captivating. It’s fascinating to see how each choice Hannah makes influences not only her own life but also the lives of those around her. Reid’s skillful storytelling keeps us engaged, and you can’t help but marvel at the “what if?” nature of life.

Some Reservations

That said, I must admit I didn’t resonate with this novel as strongly as I have with her previous works. While the plot is intriguing, I found myself wishing the execution had been a bit different. The open ending, while thought-provoking and reflective of the theme, left me grappling with unanswered questions.

I appreciate that Reid was aiming for a deeper exploration of how one choice can change the entire course of our lives. Still, I confess to being someone who prefers a clearer resolution. If you're like me and enjoy a neat, tidy conclusion, you might find the ending a bit frustrating.

Final Thoughts

In spite of my mixed feelings about the conclusion, I can’t deny that Maybe in Another Life is a beautifully written story that showcases Taylor Jenkins Reid’s talent for crafting narratives that stick with you. While it may not surpass my love for her previous masterpieces, it still offers a rich exploration of life’s choices and the paths we take.

So, if you enjoy stories that provoke thought and reflection on the complexities of life and love, I highly recommend giving this one a read! Just keep in mind that the answers you seek may not come wrapped in a tidy bow, but rather as an invitation to ponder the myriad possibilities of life.

Happy reading, everyone! 📚✨

If you loved A Rivalry of Hearts, you're in for a real treat with Tessonja Odette's second installment in the Fae Flings and Corset Strings series, My Feral Romance! 🌟 This delightful read not only expands on the whimsical world of fae but also deepens our connection with the enchanting characters we fell in love with in the first book.

Meet the Characters 🐾

Daphne, our charmingly feral heroine, comes alive in this sequel. Readers will surely appreciate her growth as she navigates her dual nature—embracing her human (seelie) form while still coming to terms with her Pine Martin (unseelie) roots. If you thought her character was intriguing before, wait until you see how she channels her creativity into crafting book covers for the fabulous Edwina 🎨📖!

And who could forget Monty? The magical playboy has returned, now with a snazzy new job giving relationship advice under the moniker "Glades." He’s just as delightful as ever, with a charming mix of wit and self-discovery. Their dynamic is electric, and let's just say their arrangement to model for Daphne's covers opens up a world of very interesting possibilities! 😉✨

Plot Twists & Turns 🔄

Odette brilliantly weaves a story that balances romance, humor, and a touch of mystery. The tension built between Daphne and Monty as they each harbor secrets adds a tantalizing layer to the plot. Will these secrets bring them closer, or will they tear them apart? 😱

The blood oath they undertake glimmers with the promise of adventure and consequences that keep you turning the pages. As their relationship unfolds, readers are treated to a delightful blend of humor and heartfelt moments that resonate with anyone who’s ever experienced the messiness of love. 💖💔

A New Type of Sprite? 🌈

I must say, the introduction of Araminta, the book sprite, was an enchanting surprise! A book sprite?! 🌟 That's a cute and creative spin on the fae realm that I hadn't encountered before—I need one for my best friend, stat! The way Odette paints her character, particularly in the second epilogue, leaves me craving a potential third book focusing on her shenanigans.

Overall Thoughts 💭

Honestly, in my opinion, My Feral Romance is an impressive step up from its predecessor, which I genuinely enjoyed! Odette's storytelling has become more vivid and engaging, and the character development is on point. I'm keen to see where she takes us next; the anticipation of more fae antics and perhaps more book sprites has me on the edge of my seat! 🌟

Happy reading! 🌈✨

I had the pleasure of receiving an audiobook ARC of A Rivalry of Hearts from NetGalley, and I'd like to extend many thanks to Dreamscape Media, the author Tessonja Odette, and NetGalley for this opportunity. Overall, I would rate the novel a 3.75 rounded up to 4 stars!

⭐⭐⭐.75/5
🌶️🌶️/5

The story begins with a captivating premise that feels reminiscent of Bridgerton, infused with a delightful fantasy twist. I was immediately drawn into the world of Edwina, a talented author whose experiences highlight the challenges faced by female writers in receiving due recognition. Edwina's latest novel—a charming rom-com about a human and a faerie—gains traction in the fae realm, paving the way for an enticing book tour.

Throughout the first half of the book, I was thoroughly engaged with the plot and character development. Edwina's journey was intriguing, and the introduction of William Hayward, a handsome rival poet, added a compelling layer of tension. Will’s character, while smoldering with charm, is also steeped in complexity as he grapples with family obligations and personal secrets.

However, as I delved deeper into the story, I found that the tale began to lose some of its initial appeal around the halfway mark. The narrative felt slightly muddled, with a surplus of elements competing for attention, which led to my interest waning. Although I loved the concept, the execution seemed a bit overloaded with plot twists and character arcs that did not quite hold my attention for the full duration of the story.

In summary, A Rivalry of Hearts is an enjoyable read that paints a vibrant picture of creativity, rivalry, and romance within an enchanting fantasy world. Despite my mid-narrative dip in enthusiasm, the book concluded on a satisfying note. I would recommend this novel to anyone looking for a mix of romance and magic, perfectly suited for fans of whimsical storytelling.

3 stars rounded up for The Christmas Jigsaw Murders and Alexandra Benedict.

⭐️⭐️⭐️

Thank you to NetGalley, Dreamscape Media, and Alexandra Benedict for this arc audiobook in exchange for my honest review.

Edie has a passion for crosswords and jigsaw puzzles, so she can't help but feel curious when a mysterious box filled with jigsaw pieces and an enigmatic note arrives at her doorstep. However, as more pieces start to show up, a string of murders unfolds, and Edie must unravel the mystery quickly to protect herself and her cherished great-nephew, who she considers like a son, from becoming the next targets!

Listen, I wanted to love this book. Unfortunately, it fell short in many ways. I think the biggest downfall imo was the main character, Edie. She is SO unlikable (i get why the author did it with how the ending unraveled) but still - investing so much into Edie, a truly horrible black heart of a person.

When the killer was revealed .. it was truly out of left field. I wanted to read something spooky since we are so close to Halloween, but I was disappointed, unfortunately.

The Trials of Lila Dalton by LJ Shepard receives (just barely 3 stars) ⭐⭐⭐

I was lucky enough to receive an audiobook arc from NetGalley, Dreamscape Media, and the author in exchange for my honest feedback. THANK YOU! ❤️

"I look up to find twelve strangers staring back at me… I realize I’m the one they’re waiting for."

I was very intrigued by the plot idea of this book. I am typically obsessed with legal books, murder mysteries, serial killers, etc. - but this wasn't executed well whatsoever.

This was a very weird book - it started off normal, but it went off the rails.

The input text introduces the story of Lila Dalton, who finds herself in a courtroom without any memory of her life. Despite her lack of personal knowledge, she conveniently remembers all things related to the legal system. Lila must win a trial and uncover the truth about her situation in order to find her way home. The story is filled with courtroom drama and mystery as both Lila and the reader try to piece together what is happening. While the initial intrigue and curiosity are captivating, the complexity of the storyline and distracting events eventually cause the reader's interest to wane. 🙃

A Heartfelt Thank You and a Review of The Sirens by Emilia Hart

I would like to take a moment to extend my heartfelt gratitude to NetGalley, the publisher, and Emilia Hart for providing me with an advance ebook copy of The Sirens in exchange for my honest review.

The Sirens is a masterfully crafted exploration of female relationships that transcends time, weaving together the past and present in a poignant narrative filled with depth and emotional resonance. At the core of this compelling tale are Eliza and Mary, whose bond in the past provides a powerful foundation for the story. Their narrative beautifully parallels that of Lucy and Jess, whose contemporary connection resonates with the experiences of their predecessors.

Exceptional Character Development

One of the standout aspects of this novel is the exceptional character development. Hart presents rich, multidimensional portrayals of her female characters, allowing readers to engage deeply with their struggles and triumphs. Eliza and Mary’s friendship serves as the emotional heart of the narrative, showcasing a relationship built on trust, resilience, and empowerment in the face of societal expectations. Their journey is a vivid reminder of the strength found in female solidarity, echoing through generations.

In contrast, Lucy and Jess’s storyline highlights how the past influences the present. Their close-knit relationship is beautifully steeped in emotional complexity and growth, illustrating the ongoing struggle for identity and self-acceptance. Hart masterfully ties these two narratives together, enhancing the plot while solidifying the overarching theme of women supporting women—a truly inspiring testament to female empowerment.

Lyrical and Immersive Writing

Hart’s writing style is both lyrical and immersive, drawing readers into a world where the echoes of the past shape the lives of the present. Her ability to blend historical elements with contemporary issues creates a rich tapestry that resonates deeply. While the pacing can occasionally feel uneven and some developments may seem rushed toward the conclusion, the emotional payoff is undeniably impactful.

The way Hart wraps up the story feels satisfying and reflective, bringing a sense of closure to the character arcs that feels well-earned.

Final Thoughts

In conclusion, The Sirens is a magnificent exploration of female strength, connection, and legacy. This book not only entertains but also inspires, making it a must-read for anyone who cherishes stories of women’s empowerment and the beauty of close relationships. Whether you’re drawn to historical narratives, contemporary struggles, or simply the richness of female friendships, this novel is sure to resonate with you.

Happy reading! 📖✨

Thank you NetGalley, Atria Books, and Stacy Sivinski for this ebook ARC of The Crescent Moon Tearoom in exchange for my honest, in my own words review.

Debut novels are my bread and butter and I’ll tell you this one did not disappoint. As far as debut novels go, I was surprised at home well the author was able to hold my attention without extending so many plot branches - which can create holes. Well done.

The cozy fall vibe coupled overall loving atmosphere makes this book stand out over other “cozy reads” I’ve read this season.

The Quigley triplets have always been close (mostly trying to break the family curse) - they were extremely different but shared in the love of their family, tea, and of course, magic.

When they find themselves in yet another unexpected situation the three close-knit sisters find that their strengths (also being so different) are pulling them away from one another.

The curse begins to show its ugly head and the sisters have to make a tough decision.. what will they chose?

Publication date is 10-1-2024! Make sure you head out to your local bookstore or purchase online and grab yourself a copy with your fave cozy fall beverage and dive in to this short but incredibly sweet debut novel by Stacy Sivinski

Another 5 star review for Alaina Urquhart and the next book in the Dr. Wren Mueller series. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Thank you to NetGalley, Dreamscape Audio, and Alaina Urquhart for this audiobook ARC of The Butcher Game.
I listened to this book in less than hours! It was written exceptionally well with imagery that will blow you away (and scare you too). The Butcher Game was a face paced, nail biting, thriller that will leave you speechless after reading/listening to the last page. Very well done.

The Butcher and the Wren leaves you with a completely wrecked Wren after she and her team let serial killer Jeremy Rose escape capture and disappear into the forest. We find out that Wren, or "Emily" has a complicated past with Jeremy, or as she knew him in a previous life, "Cal". Being a psychopath he was able to insert himself into her life and abduct her into his sick game. She escaped with her life but she is still haunted with /the events of her past. An important d/etail to remember is this: on the last body found in the woods, there was a library card left. Remember the name on that card: Philip Trudeau

The Butcher game picks up with Wren and her partner John mutually deciding that they aren't going to wait for Jeremy to come out of hiding, instead, they are going to hunt him down. The "hunt" takes them to Salem, Massachusetts, where a handful of bodies are dropping that seems to match Jeremy's MO. Unfortunately, RIchard, Wren's husband, decides to tag along for the trip in hopes of making light and bringing fun into a morbid trip.

They arrive in Salem to find a less than enthusiastic police force with bad jokes and a chip on their shoulder. While the pissing match ensues Jeremy Rose is up to his old games - luring women with his Ted Bundy looks and charm, Bodies continue to hit the ground and it seems that no one really sees the full picture until it's too late and the tragedy once again hits Dr. Wren a little too close to home.

The Butcher Game was published on 9/17/2024 and I would highly recommend it to all my friends! I would LOVE someone to pick up this series and create SE or collector editions. I would love to add them to my shelf.

Oh man I’m reviewing back to back Emily Henry books. Let’s take on.. Book Lovers. 📚

Sigh.. 😔 I have to give Book Lovers 3 stars without the half. This one is officially my least favorite by this author. I mean I was so burnt out on rom-com by the epilogue. It was S L O W. 🐢

Again, plot is solid. Nora is an agent for big time authors, and Charlie is a big time editor. Both of them are uptight and have no life outside of work. They have a chance encounter to discuss Charlie editing a book that Nora’s client wrote. Which is turns down, quite rudely.

Nora is an agent for one of the top rom-com authors in the world and yet her love life is non existent. In fact, it’s quite laughable: every boyfriend she has takes a vacation and doesn’t come back for the standard hallmark reason. Saving a dying business and falling in love. The only person she can count on is her sister, Libby.

2 years go by .. after the latest Nora breakup catastrophe, Libby decides they need a vacation together. They head to a small town in.. I want to say, New York. This small town.. is Charlie’s hometown and she finds herself face to face with the man himself.

Nora and Charlie decide to work together to get the latest book out on schedule. Turns out, they are a great team and they are also a little bit romantically magnetic. 🧲 But no, they do not want a relationship.

“Trust people's actions, not their words. Don't love anyone who isn't ready to love you back. Let go of the people who don't hold on to you. Don't wait on anyone who's in no rush to get to you.”

I CAN NOT SAY ENOUGH ABOUT THIS NOVEL BY EMILY HENRY. I am so in love with everything about this book. Do you recall the story of how you met your s/o? Daphne and her fiancé, Peter have the self-proclaimed most serendipitous, romantic, meet-cute. She picks up her entire life and moved back to Peters hometown, moves into his house and the sun was shining perfectly over the mountains, the stars were aligned, and then Peter decides that he and his best friend, Petra, are actually in love 2 weeks before the wedding was supposed to happen. NOT A FUNNY STORY FOR DAPHNE. It turns out that Petra was also very much in a 3-year-long relationship, and living with her boyfriend, Miles.

Daphne finds herself kicked out of the house she thought would be her home with her fiancé, only to witness him move another woman in the same day. Brutal. But it's OK - Peter and Petra take a short vacation to give Daphne time to get her crap out, essentially. The day of the break-up after P & P have road off into the sunset, Miles shows up with a freaking NOTE that Petra wrote breaking up with him.. this girl. Daphne needs somewhere to live, and Miles needs a roommate .. so it just makes sense.

Daphne and Miles barely speak and when they do have to interact, it's over apartment concerns. That is until, they receive 2 small cards in the mail - INVITATIONS TO THEIR EXES WEDDING. Yes, P&P besties for the resties are getting married and Daphne and Miles are getting DRUNK. So drunk that they both RSVP .. as a couple .. dating.

“Or maybe, he says, eyes crinkled against the sun, everything worth doing comes with some risk.”

Miles and Daphne both have some underlying things going on.. and to watch them come together through it all was a beautiful reading experience.

“He loves me. Present tense.
And I love him. He knows me, and I see him.”

Funny Story was hands down the best work from Emily Henry.

People We Meet on Vacation was a fun read, overall. I would rate it 3.5 stars. Emily Henry typically pulls you in within the few chapters; however I was a little dissatisfied with the overall story.

I loved the plot idea. Two opposites, Alex and Poppy, become best friends and make a plan to vacation together every year after college, and they end up falling for each other. It’s sweet.

Here’s what I didn’t like.. it was S L O W. It was a constant back and forth from present summer to 5 summers ago, 3 summers ago, etc.

We find out that something happened 2 summers ago and the two best friends haven’t spoken since. They miss each other, but can’t seem to find the common ground via text or phone call .. so they make the only logical decision: vacation together one more time. Poppy is desperate to get her best friend back, but nothing is going as planned. The trip is more or less.. disaster after disaster.

I did love the obvious chemistry between Poppy and Alex and their relationship was “goals” or whatever, but at the same time.. there is quite a bit of repetition. It’s another one of those books that could have been shortened and still enjoyable.

I still love Emily Henry and this was a cutesy book but not my favorite. ❤️

Thank you to NetGalley, the author, and the publisher for allowing me this ARC of The Favorites by Layne Fargo.

I loved this novel. It was very 7 Husbands of Evelyn Hugo -esk and I loved every minute of it.

This is the story of Katarina Shaw and Heath Roush. Two ice dancers (similar to ice skaters) who are trying to make it to the Olympics. They both come from nothing and end up in one of the most well known ice dance schools in the world.

The book is written mostly in Katarina’s atm pov as she is growing up, but there is also the documentary pov. Commentary from family, Rivals, friends, etc. We know that something big happened, but aren’t sure what it is. I love a good scandal.

I would encourage everyone to give this book a chance. The writing was impeccable and the story was incredible.

The twist at the end left me shook. Don’t sleep on this one!

Accidentally Amy was such a fun read. We all know how much of a rating snob I am; however, I'm glad that I took a chance on it. I really enjoyed Lynn Painter's writing. It was very similar to Ali Hazlewood in all the best ways.

Our MFC, Izzy, lands her dream job and it's her first day of work. She is a Starbies girl just like all of us, and obviously she can't start her first day at a new job without the basic white girl pumpkin spice latte. The line though.. is so long. She is already running late and after the barista says the name "Amy" 3 times and it's a PSL, she doesn't see any reason for her NOT to take this Amy girls drink. As luck would have it, she turns and jets for the door only to jet right into a very firm chest, where the extremely sought after PSL spills all over said chest. "Amy" meets Blake and they instantly hit it off and exchange numbers.

Blake is fresh off an engagement with a woman who lied to him.. about what? We don't know.. she was just deceitful and the first hard fact we learn about Blake .. he needs an honest woman. Even a white lie is unacceptable, no matter the circumstance. He is the VP for a company that I can't recall the name, but it's important. He remains lost in thought about this spectacular woman with dirty glasses called Amy that he met at Starbucks.

Izzy arrives at work switten with Blake and his firm chest and has a perfect first day. Before leaving, gets to meet with the big-bossman of the company and she is ready to crush this intro like she has this entire day so far.. only the bossman is none other than the firm chest man she met at Starbucks, Blake.

It turns out the "funny story" of the stolen PSL isn't super funny to a guy who just got out of an engagement because the other person was a liar. Yikes. I'd like to tell you that this an enemies to lovers' troupe, but it's not. The back of the book also lies too - Blake was never a mean boss to Izzy or anyone else for that matter. He wasn't a jerk at all and was very lovable and endearing the entire book. No more hints because you should just read it. It's worth it.

The only thing I want to complain about is that a but portion of this novel is text correspondence, and I'm not one of those readers that cannot overcome that factor, but it was a bit annoying.

Izzy.. Hi dipshit
Blake.. What's up little shit

Etc. Etc.

It was cute though and I fell in love with these characters and their witty banter. The chemistry between the two main characters was palpable, I feel like I over-use that word in reviews and never in real life, anyway.. it was very obvious and as the reader it made me smile like an idiot.

Thank you NetGalley, the publisher, and the author for this ARC ebook.

The cover and the sounded right to my alley; however I had to DNF this one at 40%. I tried to power through it but ultimately I kept falling asleep and forgetting where I left off.

A witch and a werewolf .. mortal enemies due to fat shaming.

I think this book had potential, but it was very repetitive. Especially in the use of “my mortal enemy”… didn’t love the fat shaming at the very start of the book.

This was not my cup of tea, unfortunately.

“Isn’t it strange how the world works sometimes? It’s never a matter of time, but a matter of timing.”

Another 5 stars given to Ashley Poston! The Seven Year Slip was exactly the book I needed to get completely immersed in this weekend. No seriously, drowning-style, finished in less than 24 hours, immersed. I cannot recommend this book enough. The writing, the characters, the story, chefs kiss.

“There was something just so reassuring about books. They had beginnings and middles and ends, and if you didn't like a part, you could skip to the next chapter. If someone died, you could stop on the last page before, and they'd live on forever. Happy endings were definite, evils defeated, and the good lasted forever.”

I'm writing this review fresh off my book high, without any distraction of my next read. Have you ever been so enveloped in a book that you are crying without realizing it because the writing is beautiful, and the story is perfect? Ashley Poston has that effect on me as a reader and I'm not sure I've felt that before. The ridiculous smile on my life the whole time I'm listening and the tears because it's over and I wasn't finished with these characters. In short: don't wait, read this immediately and also The Dead Romantics, because it's equally as enthralling and the characters make a short appearance.

We meet Clementine, our leading lady, a straight laces, self-proclaimed boring, work-a-holic who's only reprieve is the annual tip-abroad she takes with her aunt. But 6 months ago, she tragically lost her aunt, and the only thing she left for Clementine is her uptown apartment, the apartment that her aunt swore was magical and special. She continues moving through her life robotically and grieving the loss of her aunt in the only way she knows how to: working her butt off without any breaks or vacations. While this coping mechanism has worked out in her benefit, being second in command at a very reputable publishing company, she still struggles to find her place, to find her "home" because even though she is living in her aunt's apartment, she doesn't feel as if she belongs.

One rare weekend she is forced to take off work, Clementine is abruptly woken up by a handsome stranger, curly hair, crooked smile, dimpled, man named Iwan with a southern drawl. (pause to say YUMMY- what a picture) After the initial shock and a few pillows to the his face- she realizes it's not present day, but 7 years into the past and maybe this apartment is special after all.

Her aunt had two rules:
1.) Take your shoes off at the door.
2.) NEVER fall in love in this apartment.

“And I knew I was falling. The kind of falling that would hurt when I hit the ground. The kind of falling that would shatter me into pieces.”

I don't want to summarize this book anymore because it's much better to go in without knowing what to expect and finish it wanting more. I could go on and on about the writing because it truly is some of best that I've encountered. This book expresses deep grief but equally deep love and recognition for both of those things. Possibly how one concept helps the other. I am in total awe. Am I crying again thinking back to this book? Absolutely.

“Universal truths in butter. Secrets folded into the dough. Poetry in the spices. Romance in a chocolate. Love in a lemon pie.”

Huge thank you to NetGalley, the author- Katelyn Doyle, and Macmillan Audio for allowing me the pleasure of listening to this ARC of Just Some Stupid Love Story.

The audio narration was really well done. Especially the voice for Seth, the narrator really brought out his goofy personality and it made the listening experience that much better. Bravo.

Overall, I will give Just Some Stupid Love Story 3.50 stars that I would like to round up to 4 because I was hooked start to finish and that deserves some extra credit even if there were a few things I would critique.

The story follows Molly Marks and Seth Rubinstein, high school sweethearts who no longer communicate because Molly broke Seths heart. Alternating between each of the POVs it's obvious why it didn't work out. Molly has daddy issues that root very deep which results in self-sabotaging everything good in the life because she doesn't trust anyone. Seth is a hopeless romantic. He believes in soulmates and love at first sight. He thinks the answer to true happiness is finding "the one", get married, have kids, and live happily ever after.

High school reunion 2018 : Molly and Seth find themselves at the same table at their high school reunion. They are not excited to say the least; however, it's clear that the sexual tension is palpable. Obviously, they end the night in a hotel room making up for lost time. The next morning, Molly is full of regret, and Seth is well.. ordering room service and once again pining for her love.. but he plays it off well. Awkward.

In an effort to lessen the awkwardness, Seth suggests they play a little game, that will extend over the next 5 years, a little lengthy IMO, but nonetheless, Molly agrees. What are the terms?? 5 years and 5 couples : will they stay together, or will they break up? Whoever has the most predictions correct has to admit the other one is right about their love POV. Molly: love is dead and romance is fake or Seth: soulmates exist and there is one out there for everyone.

The concept seems simple enough, except, Seth places the two of the into the wager... as a couple. Seth bets in their favor and Molly disagrees, emphatically. They exchange emails and go their separate ways as they navigate the next 5 years mostly separate with a few chance encounters. Can Seth convince Molly that they've been soulmates all along or will she ruin him on love for good?

I would absolutely recommend this book. It was very wholesome, and it made my heart smile. Personally, I found the long drawn out 5 year bet to be a little tedious. Repetitive. I would have loved have seen the author follow the characters over 2 or 3 years. My guess is because the plot was based on the high school reunion aspect and lesser time wouldn't have made sense; however, it would have still worked with a "fast forward however many years chapter". I feel like this book could have had so much more potential if the substance was there. Did I still enjoy this book? Yes, very much. At times, I was bored and found myself looking to see how much longer was left because it was so drawn out over 2018-2023. I think that is the only complaint I have. The plot idea was great, but the execution was a bit too lengthy for me to give 5 stars. Notice how I didn't mention how Molly writes rom-coms? That's because that plot line was dead until the last few chapters.

First, thank you for NetGalley, the publisher, and the author for allowing me access to this ARC. I am a sucker for debut romance novels and the cover illustration on this one was icing on the cake. So many good things to say about book. I laughed, I cried, I thoroughly enjoyed every page from start to finish.

Falling for the wrong person?
Bury your feelings.

I struggled, minorly, with the Irish; however, the author was kind enough to give us a small dictionary, if you will, to help with definitions and pronunciations. I was too impatient to reference back and forth because I was too invested to care about my butchering of the Irish banter.

Smoking hot MMC, Callum Flannelly, a mortician in Galway, Ireland, has an unusual dilemma: to inherit the family's funeral business, he must find a wife before his 35th birthday. Not for love - but necessity. The story also discloses that Cal is "demi-sexual," meaning he requires an emotional bond with someone before feeling sexual or other forms of attraction, sometimes it's impossible. This trait is not particularly convenient for someone looking to enter a relationship quickly.

Quirky and super cute, FMC, Lark Thompson, an American cartoon creator and animator, arrives in Galway with her bright pink boots on desperate for a fresh start after losing her husband 2 years ago. She is eager to embrace positivity and leave behind the gloom; yet her new flat is flanked by a cemetery on one side and a funeral home on the other.

The meet-cute: Lark finds herself at the funeral home returning some packages that arrived at her apartment on accident. Body Bags of all things. Although their personalities clash at first, they are intrigued, and both seem to be desperate for companionship.

It turns out navigating the dating-scene, platonically, is not as easy as one would think. Lark and Callum have magnetic chemistry and they become best friends. When Cal isn't on one of his speed dates, they spend a ton of time together watching movies, rollerblading, site seeing, etc. While their very obvious and intense connection is palpable - they are both in denial because Lark does not plan on staying in Ireland and a relationship is not on the table.

“Mo chuisle? It means ‘my pulse.’ I never quite understood it before, what it meant to have another person be the d-driving force behind the pump of your blood, but it’s true. Lark, your smile saved me like an emergency transfusion. Your laugh is the song my every blood cell dances to. Your touch revived me from darkness. You are my pulse. You make me feel alive even when I’m surrounded by death.”

Overall, my review is: Morbidly Yours is captivating and it brings together humor, grief, and unexpected connections. The writing was beautiful. The spice was spicy. I especially enjoyed the dirty talk via the Irish Language, as mentioned, it was butchered because I didn't reference the authors note; however, HOT HOT HOT. S T E A M Y.

Thank you NetGalley, L.A. Schwartz, and the publisher for this ARC of My Kind of Trouble in exchange for my honest review.

My Kind of Trouble was just the book I needed this week. It has the perfect ingredients for an upcoming best seller. The author hooks you from the very first page and doesn't let you go. I love how the MFC, Harmony, is curvy and the MMC, Preston, is autistic. These are qualities that are not often seen in romance novels. Let me tell you, the writing was beautiful. The way that I could easily visual every aspect of this book was exceptional.

If you like to smile and have your heart warmed this is the book for you.

Harmony Hale, pretending to be a big city, musical executive, who specializes in festivals rolls into town with one thing on her mind: revenge for the man who ruined her life, the town Mayor. The job is simple, 1. Convince said mayor to agree to hold this festival, which promises cash inflow to the town and many job opportunities and then at the last second pull out and take all his money. 2. Sweet talk the owner of the land that she needs to lease to hold this fake festival. With ease, Harmony finds the owner, a local librarian named Preston. Nerdy and Hot - this should be easy.

Preston, the autistic local librarian meets Harmony, a vigilante con woman.

Preston spends his days taking care of his younger, also autistic sister, and arguing with the local conservative moms about the book she is allowed to put on display. He does not have the time of the patience for this red headed beautiful, curvy woman who is eager to have a conversation with him - probably another conservative mom that wants to yell at him. He is determined to dodge her at every corner.

With persistence, Harmony wears him down and they start spending time together, planning the "festival". Will Harmony be successful in her con against the man behind all her childhood oppressions, or is there something else in store for Harmony?

Thank you NetGalley, the author, and the publisher for this ARC audio of The Rom-Commers. It was so good. It did have a slower start in my opinion; however, I was invested pretty early on and finished this book in one day.

This is my first read written by Katherine Center and it will not be my last. I loved all of the characters and the character growth throughout. I was surprised that I enjoyed this book so much because there was no spice and I really enjoy the spice, but honestly, this is the kind of story that just makes you smile and laugh and cry too.

The Rom-Commers had all the ingredients of a good book: lovable characters, light romance, and humor. What I really liked is it also had a serious aspect about it. It had depth, to say the least. I was sobbing for the last couple chapters and I was terrified of the ending (but I didn't cheat, I was patient).

Quick summary: Emma and Charlie are screenwriters. Charlie is very well known and Emma hasn't really made a mark yet; however, she knows all of Charlie's work and is a huge fan. Charlie is known for writing more serious, sci-fi type screenplays; whereas, Emma is the Rom-Com expert. Charlie decides to give Rom-Com a chance and writes a terrible screenplay. With their mutual friend, Logan, they meet up and decide to work together to get Charlie back in the groove and to get Emma's name out there.

Enemies to Friends
Friends to Lovers
Forced Proximity

One more thing to add: Katherine made this story real, Relatable. It wasn't a quick hello, I love you, happily ever after. It wasn't your average romance and I think that's the reason I liked it so much.

I would say that this isn't 100% an adult book and it would be suitable for young adults as well.

Thank you NetGalley, the author, dreamscape media, and the publisher for his ARC of The Wallflower in exchange for my honest review.

Spice level is higher than my overall star rating, but let's be honest, I love it when I don't have to work for spice.

The book takes place on The Oakmount College campus and the vibe is secret society-esk. Enemies to lovers troupe comes in heavy and fast with the two main characters, Bel (THE WALLFLOWER) and Drew. Bel is a book nerd who is only there because she was given a scholarship and she is barely scraping by trying to focus on school while being the main caregiver of her sick mother. Drew is a billionaire, (well his daddy is), star football player, and a frat boy who is the president of the super elite secret society

Let the "Hunt" begin. This reminds me of two very popular dark romance other books I've read. It's a game where there is a money prize if you can make it to a certain designated place without getting caught by the men playing the game.

Bel needs the money to take care of her mom, so she finds herself at the hunt being chased by Drew.

Why do I give this book 3.5 stars? There was a lot of plot lines and it seemed a bit frantic trying to pull all the lines together. Which was unsuccessful, to say the least. The author did end leave us on a cliff hanger (SERIOUS BECK!?) I needed to know more!!

IMO this was an addictive read. I can say with confidence that I will finish this series. Even though the ending was confusing, I am invested in Bel and Drew.

"There's no escaping the beast now that you've awakened him, flower."

Thank you to NetGalley and Colby Wilkens for this ARC if If I Stopped Haunting You. First of all - I LOVE debut novels and this one was top notch, for the most part. Bravo Colby Wilkens.

Overall book plot rating 3.75 stars
Overall spice rating 3 stars

This book sucked me in immediately. It began with a flashback of a Comic-Con type event featuring top indigenous horror authors. We have MFC passionate, Penelope Skinner who has written one novel: a more down to earth, real, version of Native events and then MMC Neil Storm (named King of Horror by fans), her arrogant rival author, who has several published and "white approved" successful Native books. Essentially, Pen finds Neils latest novel racist and tells him so - it escalates and she heaves a book and is black listed in the writers world.

Fast forward - Pen hasn't written a single book and is in desperate need of inspiration. Two fellow authors and friends of Pen invite her to a writers retreat in a, you guessed it, haunted house. Spooooooooky. She accepts even though these two authors are also friends with Neil, her arch nemesis; however, he is definitely not coming, right?

Wrong. Apprarently the King of Horror is having a bit of writers block too and decided last minute to attend the retreat. They arrive at this haunted house which the author was SO VIVID in describing.. quite frightening. Well done. Four writers having a retreat in a haunted house trying to write the next best selling horror novel - what could go wrong?

It's quickly determined that this is not a drill - paintings that have moving eyes, cold rooms, rotting smells, creepy cellars, truth or dare, and a lot of whiskey. Neil and Pen are the only ones who are being targeted by these unfinished business ghostys and well, it brings them together to come up with a plan to find out what happened to them - maybe telling their story will put them back on the bestseller list? I don't know - you will have to read it and find out. ;)

Here is what I didn't like.

1.) The author includes "queer" in this description and I disagree. The "queer" scenerio was almost forced just so it could have that in the description IMO. I mentioned there are four authors, two men, two women.. it's thrown around that the two men have kissed and the two women did a little or oral.. in the past. There wasn't any orgys (sadly) the two main characters are a male and female duo. It wasn't necessary.

2.) The "build up" ending was lack-luster at best. Quite frankly, it could have been so much better, so much more thought out and this book would have been a 5 star read for me. Can we get an ending redo? No, I'm kidding.

Overall... As far as debut novels go, this is one of the best I've had the pleasure of reading.

I think I am deeming Freida McFadden Queen of the plot twist. To say I devoured this book would be a gross understatement. I loved it. I think this may be my fave McFadden novel.

The writing was superb. She is a trickster! She leaves breadcrumbs to make you think “anonymous” could be any one of the 6 friends! Well except MFC Claire. It’s so good.

6 friends, 2 married couples, and one semi new relationship hop into a mini van to go on a mini vacation.

Anonymous makes us aware in chapter one that 5 of the 6 will not come back from their vacation. Secrets secrets everywhere.

Poison belladonna berries, wild animals, hunting rifles, Swiss Army knives, no cell reception, creepy dilapidated cabins, and possibly a psychopath. What could do wrong?

Thank you to NetGalley and the author for this ARC. I mostly enjoyed this book. It's a 3.5 star read for me but I would absolutely recommend to my friends who enjoy murder mysteries.

5 starts for the narrator. I loved her accent and she did a wonderful job keeping my attention and alternating from male and female POV. At times a female narrator is a little cringy with a male POV. I loved it.

Without giving away too much away. this book starts with the MFC, Lizzie at the alter with her fiance, Owen and the officiant is asking the bit about does anyone object etc. and someone says yes.

Backing up 3 months, MFC, Lizzie is visiting her family in her hometown after a vacation in Dubai where she met her now fiance, Owen and 6 months later she is pregnant. She hasn't been to her hometown since the tragedy of her sister, Shelley's wedding.. where her husband, Rafe, essentially dropped dead of a heart attack. But was it a heart attack? Lizzie and Owen are struggling financially and were kicked out of their apartment so they end up staying with LIzzie's mother.

Lizzies POV alters to the past where we are first introduced to Sylvia, her mentally unstable mother. It's evident that Lizzie had a traumatic past surrounding her mother and now she is forced to stay the house with her for an unknown amount of time. To keep it short, Lizzie is not too keen on staying there because she is suspicious that her mother had something to do with Rafe's death.

Silvy absolutely has villan vibes and the author did a fantastic job of creeping me out with her actions! I especially loved when she was waving around the kitchen knife singing along to a morbid song about death and staring right at Owen. CREEPY. Needless to say, Lizzie thinks that Owen is in danger and her mother is trying to kill him like she killed Rafe.

The ending was PHENOMENAL. The reviews that say things were predictable... not a chance. My mouth just fell open because I could not have dreamt that ending in a million years. It's really really good.

Why not 4 stars? At times I was confused with the time jumps.. It also wasn't super realistic.. Lizzie was super concerned that her fiance was in danger but she kept galavanting around with her old high school mates and leaving him alone in the house with her mother or letting her mother drive him to and from the airport. Also, the big reveal at the end.. while I kind of expected THIS ONE PART - or something to the nature of it.. this person had too many interactions with too many people for the "reveal" to be something that happens in real life. Also, I think the book could have been shorter if Lizzie's internal thoughts weren't so repetitive.

Overall I'm glad that I read this one and I think it will be a great success for the author. :)

“Chess is a bad idea.

Why?

Look where it got me.

It got you here. To me.”

SWOON ALERT. If you would have asked me a few months ago if I would be reading and rating a SPORTS ROMANCE 5 stars, I would have rolled my eyes and laughed in your face. I DNF Ice Breaker and apparently that was the holy grail of sport-romance books. Check & Mate was so light and yet approached serious issues too. & THE CHEMISTRY between the two main characters? Palpable. Mallory and Nolan, brought together not just because of their outer appearance but their MIND. It was beautiful to read.

Mallory grew up in a chess-famous household. Her father was the one of the best in the world, and she spent the majority of her youth traveling to chess matches and sharing the love of the game with him. But things change, and she is done with chess. Mallory has sworn off of chess forever.

With her dad gone and her mom sick, Mallory finds herself without a job and unable to adequately provide for her two younger sisters. Without much else to do, her best friend guilts her into a charity chess event, which she half-heartedly agrees to.

Check Mate after Check Mate, Mallory comes to the last match and finds herself face to face with the one and only, Nolan, the number one chess player in the country. And she beats him. Despite what one would think, word travels fast on the worldwide chess web... and Nolan is intrigued, to say the least.

Mallory is offered the chance of a lifetime that would provide her family with monetary stability for the rest of their lives. The question is, will she be able to successfully fight the demons of her past or will she let her fears win?

I cherished every single up and down in this story. Truly a feel-good novel. The character growth and the bringing together of family will make your heart smile. 10/10 highly recommend. 5 stars.

"I have to wonder if we were meant to be, and only missed each other narrowly. Because when I stopped playing, I was done. Done. Years passed, and it should have been it for you and me, we should have been that narrow miss and nothing more. But Defne’s tournament happened, and it was . . . a second chance.”
